On-demand Or Scheduled Virus Scanning Does Not Continue After Reboot

While I was evaluating Bidefender Internet Security 2009, I found that on-demand or scheduled virus scanning does not contiue after reboot.

For example, if I need to reboot the computer during on-demand virus scanning, after reboot, I can't find any ways to continue virus scanning at the point of last scan, even if I pause of stop the scan before reboot. Since scanning my compiuter take more than 10 hours, I don't want to start my scan from the beginnig again.

Are there any ways of continuing a virus scan at the point before reboot?

The option you are asking about is not available in the product because it presents a security risk, first of all. Also, each scan creates a unique profile for everything it needs to scan on the system (when the scan starts), if you rebooting the computer that profile is not stored on the hard drive and it will be lost.

BitDefender has a type of smart scan where the first scan that you run on the system is going to take the longest time, but the more scans you run the less time it will take for them to be completed. If after running several scans the scan time is still over 10 hours we will need to investigate why this is occurring.

Please tell us if you ran up to this point over approx. 10 scans on the machine and what quantity of data do you normally scan during a deep system scan with BitDefender.

I have run one on-demand scan completely. The second one is a weekly scheduled scan which is interrupted by a reboot. So totally I have scanned 2 times.

For 10 hrs. scanning, I have several drives:

C: (80GB) - OS, APPS, My Documents... (50% full)

(640GB) - Data, Downloads, ISO, Photos (60% full)

E: (200GB) - Backup of C: and My Documents and selected data in

My Deep System scan includes all the drives. I found much time was spent on scanning the ISO.

I will try more scan to see if it's smart.

BTW, would you please elaborate more on what security risk of this feature?

The security risk that we have mentioned refers to the fact that some strings of malware will mark certain files for deletion/alteration upon restart - if the scan does not reach the files infected with this malware before the restart and it is able to modify files on the system once the restart has finished that leaves your computer opened to a vulnerability by not having all files scanned in the same session. It is, however, a minor risk, but we prefer not to take this chance.
