Internet Security 2009 Reinstall

the bd installer gives me the error "A newer version of Bitdefender has been detected" and wont install, and YES i have run the bd uninstall tool, it reports every task as "not found." I have manually scoured my files and even registry to no avail, all i've noticed is there are registry entries for a bitdefender firewall NDIS driver, and i can't seem to find out how to remove it. I don't understand why bd wont simply overwrite other installations. i'm running windows vista home premium x64. thanks in advance for anything!

  • Hello dolescreen,

My first suggestion would be to download a new version of the uninstall tool in Safe Mode with Networking and run it using an administrator account.

Then restart and try to install BitDefender again.

Please let me know how it goes.

  • I tried it in safe mod on administrator with the same results from the uninstall tool

  • Hello dolescreen,

In order to see exactly what files from BitDefender are not deleted we will need to have a look at a report generated on your system. Some troubleshooting steps were sent to you by e-mail on Ticket ID 200906021003932 .

    Thank you!

  • well apparently i can install it now despite the uninstall tool's report of "Not Found"

however now that its reinstalled, its not working quite right. there is no system tray icon and there are no pop-ups asking to allow or block programs, and certain features in the system are disabled and i cannot enable them

  • ok i solved it, i left out that i am using an alternative desktop shell (emerge desktop), it appears that was what was causing the problems with bd, all's well now! thanks for your help!
