Password Protected Files

Hi

my scan logs show 49 files not scanned because they are password protected. I have no idea what they are, and I certainly didn't password them. I can't find them with Windows Explorer in order to delete them manually. Also, there is one file unscanned because it is overcompressed.

Are they cause for concern, and if so what to do?

cheers

  • Hello Hoppo48,

The Password-protected files are legit. Most of them are part of the Ad-Aware SE Personal installation kit, other are (possibly) deleted backups.

The Ad-Aware installation kit is on your desktop, the other files are in your Recycle Bin.

About Overcompressed files, you can read here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=13398

In case you have suspicions, you can send me this file for analysis:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Ian Hopkins\Local Settings\Temp\CR_D4.tmp\PATCH.PACKED.7Z

    Hello hoppo48,

The reason you are receiving this notification is because BitDefender has discovered that these items are are protected by some proprietary form of encryption, making it impossible for BitDefender to scan the contents of these files.

Many security products use some form of encryption to protect their databases and quarantined items, and will subsequently be detected by BitDefender as "password-protected". You don't have to worry because these files will not affect the security of your system . You will simply have to ignore them.

For more details regarding the overcompressed files please read the next topic:http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=13398
