Bitdefender Not Updating
Hello, I am having a problem with updating which I haven't seen in searching through the forum.
A few days ago, windows security alerts started informing me that my BitDefender was reporting that it was out of date. When I looked at bitdefender, I was curious to find that under "last update" bitdefender was reporting "never."
After noticing this I went to the "event" tab and noticed that the last successful update occurred on 8-1-07. However the program did not have any "update errors" beyond that date. It simply didn't seem to try to update.
When I click "update now" it simply tells me that no updates are available. Today I manually updated the weekly signatures, and my current version is 7.14143 with 703316 virus signatures (is this current?). Windows security is still reporting that BitDefender is out of date.
Running every scan that Bitdefender has shows no viruses or spyware.
I'm confused as to why BitDefender is reporting that it has never been updated, and why the event log shows the last successful update to be on 8-1-07.
Someone please help!!

Hello doctorhay53
Which version of BitDefender are you using? I mean BitDefender Antivirus (without firewall), BitDefender Antivirus and BitDefender Internet Security (both with firewall). If you are using a separate firewall then you must allow livesrv.exe access to the internet (you must allow both traffic I mean incoming as outgoing) which is located in X:\Program Files\common files\Softwin\BitDefender Update Service\livesrv.exe (You have to change X by the letter of your hard disc or partition where windows is installed on). It could be that the update files are corrupted.
Go to the follow folders:
Delete only the files with the following extensions e.g test.doc (.doc is the extension):
.avxpnd, .tmppnd, .updpnd, or .gz
To see these extensions do this go to start,my computer after that go to tools, folder options, display / view, uncheck hide file extensions for known filetypes and confirm by pressing on apply and ok.
C:\Program Files\Softwin\
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\
C:\Windows\System\
C:\Windows\System32\

I have BD Antivirus Plus 10.
I added livesrv.exe to the windows firewall exceptions, but my BD did not notice any new updates. But it probably wouldn't because I just manually updated about 2 hours ago.
There were no files with those extensions in any of those folders.
Is my version listed in the first post up to date?0 -
Hello doctorhay53
Disable windows xp firewall: go to start, run, type firewall.cpl press enter and check disable confirm by pressing on apply and ok. You shouldn't use two firewalls. I recommend that you only enable BitDefender firewall.
Try this also open BitDefender go to update, settings, change the server under primary update location settings to http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com
These are the latest updates at the moment:
virus signatures: 770054
engine version: 7.14358

I disabled Windows XP firewall and changed the primary update location and BitDefender still reports that there are no updates available.
I find it strange that I followed the manual update instructions only a couple of hours ago yet my version is still incorrect.0 -
Hello doctorhay53
I suggest that you try this close BitDefender by rightclicking on the red BitDefender near the system clock choose exit. Put in your installation disc and choose for modify/repair. Try to update again. What other security programs have you installed?

I decided to do just that before you had a chance to get back to me, because it sounded like the program just wasn't working right.
Updating the installation solved the issue, the update is running fine now. I'm not sure what happened but now everything is fine.
Thanks for your help!!0 -
Hi Doctorhay53
I had just about the same problem the other day. Not only would my BitDefender not update, it didn't even recognize that I had an engine version or virus definitions. I had no event logs showing or anything, just like it all had been deleted. I too had to do a reinstall to solve the problem. I have no idea what caused this problem. I had not made any changes to my computer before this happened. Maybe there was a glitch for some of us on one of the updates. Who knows....you've got to love computers. Anyway, if there are any others that have had this problem recently then maybe they should let the BD guys know about it. If it's a wide spread problem then they might want to check it out.
