Unable To Set Up Home Network

I have BD Internet Security 2010 installed on my desktop and my Laptop

The desktop is connected by LAN to the router and the Laptop by Wifi (Router is Belkin N1)

The laptop works great and i have added it to the Home network, I can also see the other computer ad being on the network (I set password on Desktop) and it showes as having BD installed, but will not let me add it to the network as it is not accessible...

On the desktop i get only as far as putting in the password (and confirmation) - but the PC does not appear o nthe networks and i cannt add any otehers.

Can any one tell me what is wrong?

I have ensured that the firewall is configured the same on both machines.

yep i have the same problem too, it has worked but does not, i've set it up several times. xp pro sp2 x86 and vista hp sp2 x64 o/s so it ain't our set up, it's the beta defender2010 at fault, lucky for me i only have the 1 pc on the lan

I have the same problem here, the "BDIS 2010 Network" doesn't want to activate but tweaking the settings in Firewall/Network has allowed me to see my network and devices.

First of all, u need to make sure that firewall's trust level is set at least on "Safe" (on every system). Also very important, make sure u have activated the windows file sharing service (simply share an empty folder, and you will be prompted to enable the file sharing service).

Now, from the picture posted, i believe (even it's a ###### small picture ) it's a known issue. The HM module is actually working, but the interface is not refreshed properly. A fix will be available soon via live update. Untill then, as an workaround, activate HM, enter the password when prompted, change de UI to novice mode, then change it back to expert or intermediate mode. (the issue may reappear after reboot )

I had this problem in BDAV2009 and they were never able to solve it. I found the same problems in BDAV 2010. Didn't bother trying to solve it this time since I was forced to downgrade back to 2009 because of network performance problems and the inability to update that were introduced by 2010.

WKS. Are you saying to enable "Simple File Sharing". I have file sharing enabled but "simple" file sharing. Microsoft advised that one will get better performance if "simple" file sharing is NOT enabled.

I got exact the same problem, and idd used your procedure, it's idd working like you say but after reboot you must do the same procdure again,

I hope on a fix for that too.

I have been having an issue as to adding the other computers in the network.

After I click add computer, sometimes it won't list them at all. Other times it will but will say it hasn't got BD installed or it's not accessible when they do & are, even when I try to add the main pc.

Right now it says this PC doesn't have BD or it's not accessible but it does "see" it as it is listing it right now. It's showing up with the PC name & when I click it, it shows 0.0.0.0.

I'm having the same problem. I've made sure that all computers have the network listed as Trusted Local, but still no luck. There is one computer that won't connect to my network. The only thing I could think of is that particular computer does not yet have Vista SP1 or SP2 installed yet...so maybe after upgrading it will work. Just a thought.

I'm having the same problem as well. BitDefender shows the computers in the list with an icon indicating BD is installed on them, yet I can't 'add' them into the network. I've checked the firewall settings, tried turning on file sharing, rebooting... I'm running out of ideas!

In order to troubleshoot the issue that you have encountered concerning the Home Network module in BitDefender we kindly ask you to follow these steps:

1. Access BitDefender on both computers that are trying to connect. Click on the Settings button, choose the Intermediate Mode then click on the Network tab. Click on the "Enable Network" button on both machines then you need to set up a distinct password for each computer when joining the network;

2. Try adding the remote computer using its IP address and not the graphical interface in the wizard;

3. If you are still unable to add the remote computer, check in order to see if network shares between the two machines are running properly. If you have a password set up for local shares in the LAN we kindly ask you to remove that password in order to make the shares accessible;

4. If the connection is still unsuccessful please disable the BitDefender firewall on both computers and try to see if like this you can connect the two machines using the home management feature.

In case these steps don't manage to resolve the issue please send us the following information:

- How are the computers interconnected (direct cabled connection/router/switch/AP etc.)?;

- What type of network adapters do you use on each machine to access the LAN (wireless/cabled and the name of the manufacturer and version)?;

- The number of bits for the operating systems on your machines;

Home Networking worked intermittently for me in BDAV2009 on some of my PCs and not at all in BDAV2010. BD told me to enable the Arrakis service but that never helped. I regularly share files over the network between the computers (file sharing, not "Simple" file sharing) I do not use BD Firewall, but I did try disabling the Windows Defender Firewall and adding the PCs to the Home network using their IP addresses... no luck.

Answers to your questions. I have 4 computers on the network. XP, Vista, 32, 64. Here is the info for the 2 32 bit XP ones.

1) Connected over 100-base-T through a Netgear Ethernet Hub.

2) LAN adapters are integrated onto the motherboards (Dell PCs).

A) 100-base-T - Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller - Driver 7.73.0.0

100-base-T - Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC - Driver 5.719.325.2009

3) OSs

A) Windows XP-32 Pro V5.1 SP3

Windows XP-32 Home Edition V5.1 SP3

Already run both in Intermediate mode.

When I click enable and enter the network password, "sometimes" the PCs in the network show up in the add computer wizard, sometimes not. If they do show up, the IP listed is just 0.0.0.0. or it will state the PC does not have BD installed. This happens on both machines.

Sometimes nothing shows up at all.

Tried adding the secondary PC by it's "name" which changed the state of the main PC to offline in the network module.

Main PC is wired to a wireless router & the second PC is wireless.

Disabled firewall. Still no luck.

I've now uninstalled and reinstalled Bitdefender 2010 four times, at their Tech Support direction, in an effort to get Home Network to function. None of my three computers can "see" each other, even with the firewall set at Full Trust, Stealth OFF and Generic Yes, and all addresses allowed. The error message sometimes says that Bitdefender isn't installed, but it is, or that the the computer I selected is already part of another network, which it isn't. And yes, the password I use hasn't changed since I began using Bitdefender 2009 Internet Security.

I use a Linksys WRT110 wireless router, but two of the computers are hardwired to it. All computers access the internet fine, can print to a network printer installed on the router, and the rest of Bitdefender seems to work okay, although applications are slow to initialize, especially Firefox and Outlook Express.

Is anyone experiencing the same problem with Home Network? i can't believe it's a faulty installation 4 times!

The Technical manual doesn't provide guidance on why a computer would be offline to Home Network, or how to turn in online.

This solution sometimes work and sometimes doesn't. One think is fore shure the icon in that list with the computer you add must be blue, if it is red it will say that bitdefender is not install or is not accesible on that computer, and if you use a ruter you must allso disable the ruter firewall. However I don't know why they didn't resolve the problem in 2010versions.

And sometimes if I add the pc on a computer on the otheroane apears offline.

I'm having the same problem and haven't figured it out yet. When I try to set up the home network, it can see my other computer, but it won't let it join (says bitdefender is not installed on it (which it is).

I have been able to set-up the BD Network okay but when a network computer goes to sleep (for example) after it returns it remains as offline to the other computers in the BD interface. Reboots do not resolve it consistently.

i Had the Same problem with 2009 and still with 2010.

I found the only way to allow them to connect was using ip address and adding them both in under the firewall. but again the became inactive over time and unable to check on them.

It was going to be a great feature as having to go around and check all 5 of the computers is a pain in the bum.

Hope this issue is actually fixed sometime soon.

I have just installed Antivirus 2010 (not Internet Security) and have seen the same issues as breadncheese. BD's soultion was to change settings in the Firewall which I don't have. My problem goes further than flaky connections though as enabling Home Network randomly kill's connectivity between other computers on the network and my one. This is a major for me since my computer acts as a file server. When combined with my other issues with Autocad (see other post) I am getting a bit sceptical about all those great reviews Bitdefender gets.

I have a wireless network set up. I have intermittent connectivity. MY PC is an XP machine. My Laptop is a Windows 7. Both run bitdefender 2010 fully updated. I have had connectivity between them today, but one machine loses the other and I cannot get it back. When I look in Home Network it shows the other computer is not available. I check and everything seems OK. I disable the network then re-enable and try to add the other computer. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't I get an error that says " the selected computer does not have BitDefender installed or is unavailable". This is very frustrating. I have the fire wall configured as full trust, remote and yes. In the sone I have all the addresses added as trusted. Thanks!

Update, I was able to add the laptop onto the PC's home network and it showed up on the laptop's home network, but it says it is offline. I can find no reason for that. I am able to share from my shared folder on the PC and on homeshare in iTunes. strange!

Also, not sure if it helped the 'home network' situation but I also added "SMB" ports (windows file sharing) and TCP 3587, UDP 3540 (Homegroup) to the local/safe rules on all network computers. Now, with the firewall on, I get all network shares and I can control the protection of all computers via my bitdefender home network on my laptop.

The update screen says "update service is unavailable". I click on Update now and it just spins and spins and doesn't do anything. I've contacted customer support twice with no response. Tried to do the live chat and it was taking 30 seconds per letter to type. Can anyone provide any assistance on how to fix this? <img class= " />

Hello all,

We would like you to follow the steps bellow and let us know how it worked for you:

First of all manually create a BitDefender Trusted Zone between the computers in that Network:

- open the BitDefender window;

- go to Settings from the top right corner;

- Switch UI to Expert Mode, click Apply and then OK;

- select Firewall;

- open the Network tab;

- click on Local/Wireless Area Connection, set the Trust Level to Trusted local, the Stealth to Remote and the Generic to Yes;

- select the used network under Zones (either Local Area Connection or Wireless Connection) from the zones field;

- click on the icon with a "+" from the Zones part;

- enter the IP address for the second computer;

- from the Action menu, select Allow;

- click on OK;

- you should see a zone being added in the Zones list;

- perform the same steps on the other computer creating a zone with this computer.

Now please share at least one folder on the network on each computer. In order to do this please right click on a folder -> choose Properties -> go to the Sharing tab -> select Share this folder -> click Apply and then OK.

Please also go to Start -> Run (for Windows XP) or Start -> Search (for Windows Vista and Windows 7) type the command: ncpa.cpl - and hit Enter. Now please right click on the Local/Wireless area connection -> choose Properties and make sure that the 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks' is enabled.

In order to be able to configure a Home Network with all the computers, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to each computer from the Network. In order to create a network please open BitDefender in Expert Mode , go to the Home Network module, click on Enable Network and set a password for each computer.

2. Add the other computers by IP (on every computer) or by name and they should be added to the network.

Note: The first password required is the one you set on this computer, the second one is for the Remote computer you want to Add in the Network.

I have a laptop (win 7, connected wirelessly) and a desktop (XP, LAN) with a Belkin N1 router.

I have BDIS 2010 configured on both machines as specified by Carmen Cernev's post on Jan. 11. These are my results:

-Neither machine will show the desktop in the BDIS home network tab, but when I go to add it I get a message saying "the selected machine is already in your home management network" (same message both machines)

-The desktop can not see the laptop or any shared folders on the laptop

-The laptop can see the desktop and has full read/write access to the shared folders

Is there a true fix yet? Any other configuration I can try?

BD 2010 has now been out for 3+ months (first installed back in November 2009) and still the home network feature does not function properly.

When activated the network feature lists all computers but then after only a few minutes it starts to register them offline, then randomly they come back online then suddenly their offline again. This also starts to slowdown the network and also on occasion stops computers accessing each other completely. This is then only fixed by rebooting all computers.

I have finally given up with this very useful feature and disabled it, as I am sure many others have too.

It is a shame that BD2010 is still not FULLY functional.

NB. I manage 3 home networks and this occurs on all of them.

As per my last post BD keeps registering computers as offline when they are clearly not.

Hello all,

Please note that the computers in the Network must have the same architecture for the Operating system, in other words they should be all on 32 bits or 64 bits.

Also, please follow the steps below in order to manually start the service required by this Network:

1. Click on Start->Run->type services.msc (for Windows Vista just type this command in the search box) -> hit Enter;

2. In the new window, please select the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service;

3. Right click on it and select Properties;

4. Select Automatic Startup type and then Start the service;

5. Click on Ok to apply the changes and the close the Services window;

At this moment, the BitDefender Home Network feature does not work if the computer is using 2 types of connection in the same time (wireless and cable). Usually, you do not need to use more than 1 connection at a time, and you need to disable the other ones to configure the Home Network.

Please go to Start -> run (for Windows Xp) or Start -> Search (for Windows Vista and Windows 7) -> type the command ncpa.cpl and hit Enter. The Network Connections window will open. Please right click on the network connection(s) that you are not using and select the Disable option. Then restart the computer.

Additionally, for Windows XP please follow the steps bellow:

Share at least one folder on the network on each computer. In order to do this please right click on a folder -> choose Properties -> go to the Sharing tab -> select Share this folder -> click Apply and then OK.
If you do not have a password set for the Windows User account you are logged with, you need to go to Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and select the Guest user. Please Turn it On and then restart the computer.

I'm totally lost with the Home Network feature now and I've tried absolutely everything but to no avail.

I can (sometimes) add all the PC's on my network but after a few minutes, they all report as offline (sometimes before they go offline, some report that they require attention, but looking at the PC there's nothing which needs attention). One of my XP machines is actually reporting that ITSELF is offline!

I've even reinstalled Windows on all PC's and done all the live updates, but it still doesn't work.

All my PC's on my network are running XP x86, except a laptop which doesn't have BD installed and is running Windows 7 x64 - will this cause the problem?

I myself, and probably many others, have given up on the Network feature.

After many months and apparent fixes this problem is still not resolved.

My network consists of

4 x Windows XP Home 32bit

Netgear DG834 Router

After setting up the feature all seems to work then after only a few minutes, one by one the computers start to register as offline.
