2010 Av Won't Register

I've updated to 2010 AV (64 bit) from 2009 because of the gray ball problem.

When I boot Bitdefender tells me I still only have a trial version even though I've registered the 2009 key when I did the install.

I should have two months remaining, but I keep getting the trial reminder. Re-typing the key tells me bit defender is already licensed with that key. Well it should be, but on this machine already.

How can I fix this?
