Critical Microsoft Updates Error For Bd Total Security 2010

Options

- BitDefender Total Security 2010

- Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit

- Critial Microsoft update errors

Over the past few hours I have been prompted by my BD Total Security 2010 program to download and install 'Critical Microsoft updates' approximately 10 times.

In every instance, I follow the instructions and it appears that both the download and installation work properly. However, no more than a minute after the process is complete I get the exact same warning on the Dashboard (i.e. Critical Warning - 1 pending issue) and I have to repeat the whole process over again.

As I stated at the begining of this post, I have gone through this process 10 times (or more) and am getting worried that my BD software is corrupted or infected... or perhaps just malfunctioning. I am also getting annoyed...

Can someone please let me know if this is a known issue and whether there is a solution.

    Hello gjtbackwards,

You will find more information's about this sittuation here:http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=15497 .

When BitDefender is installed, a new version of a file msxml4.dll the file is replaced with a newer version which will determine the update warning . As we stated in that post this issue is programmed to be solved in our next major update.

As a workaround please try the steps from the next Windows article:

    Thank you .

  • This is a super easy fix. Go to your control panel and then programs and features and find msxml 4.0 sp2 (kb936181) and remove it. Then download the update and you will be fine after that. I never had this problem until after installing bit defender for some reason.

In XP you would just need to go to add/remove programs in the control panel.
