The Aftermath Of The Virus..can't Restore Computer
hello,
It seems I'm not through with the consequences of the virus that infected my computer. I run system restore and whatever date I choose I get same message, 'System can't be restored.... nothing was changed' and all that. I'm also experiencing another issue today that I can't start WL messenger. I log in but it shuts by itself and disappears from tray. I uninstalled then reinstalled, tried repairing it no results.
NB: after I deleted the virus manually I unchecked the system restore and made a restart and choose a new one. All of those dates aren't working at all.
Any help?
I will attach hear the gmer.log file of today.

Hello Fida,
Please go to the next link :http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB490 and run the Avis tool as described in the article . After you obtain the report , you will need to upload it here then reply with the download links . My colleagues from the Virus Analysis team will analyze the Gmer and the Avis log and we will tell you for sure if your computer is clean.

Hi Alex,
I was able to solve the WLmessenger problem yesterday from a messenger support website. I had to clear all the files related to it and make a clean install to make it work but this is really the first time I face such a weird behavior from messenger. I pasted the link to the avis log file but I would like to tell you that I have been having this error message whenever I run the Avis program ( which is the last couple of times) that there was a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error and now I'm having this error appear sometimes when I shut Firefox. So I hope you can aid me figure out the System restore problem in addition to this C++ message.

So is there any answer?

When you uncheck system restore and reboot doing so removes all restore points. You have to start fresh then and create a new restore point with the virus gone.

Thanks for the advice, but this is what I did back then. I can't restore my computer to yesterday's date even. All new system Checkpoints aren't working.

Hi again it seems that the virus has damaged your system restore. You have not mentioned what version of windows you are running so I can’t give you a link but if you Google rebuild system restore it should help. Hope you get it working.

hello,
I'm using Win XP Pro (SP3). I don't know why but when I erased my last system restore points yesterday it worked again. Its so strange because these were created I think only 10 days ago after my problem with a taskmanger folder was solved here on the form. So I actually made 3 clearing of the system restore after the virus.
I have no idea what is going on really. But glad its working. Hope it will be for long.
thanks for your advice and comments.
