Bd 2010 Scan Activity Bar Problem

Options

I am running BD 2010 Internet Security under XP and the Scan Activity Bar keeps disappearing after a reboot. The option shows as selected and if I deselect and then reselect, it comes back ok. This is a random problem - it doesn't happen after every reboot. It seems as though BD is forgetting the option even though it shows as selected in the Settings window. Help please.

I am having exactly the opposite problem. The scan activity bar is deselected in my settings, the way I like it, but regardless of that I still occasionally appear when I boot, though now always. I also had this problem with Bitdefender 2009.

Now however, a second windows also tends to appear, asking me to 'confirm' my account by clicking a link in an email message. I have already done this (several times in fact), but the message still appears, though also not always. Both the confirmation message and the scan activity bar appear or don't appear seperately from each other. Sometimes I get one, sometimes both, sometimes neither.

I'm currently running Bitdefender 2010 64 bit under Windows 7 RC. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello Woudenberg and baz ,

Woudenberg : Please go to the next location:C:\WINDOWS\system32, look after a file called "user_gensett.xml" and delete it . Reboot your system after that and look if you have the same issue.

baz :You should also try the instructions above and if the same issue occurs please go to the next location : C:\Documents and Settings\<currentuser>\Application Data\BitDefender\Desktop\Profiles (Windows XP) or C:\Users\<curentuser>\AppData\Roaming\BitDefender\Desktop\Profiles(Windows Vista) and look after the file called user_gensett.xml . Go to the next location http://www.sendspace.com/ , upload the file then post here the download link.

This location is hidden and you may want to follow the next steps in order to display it :

    - go to your "Control Panel" and open "Folder Options";

    - then go to the "View" tab and perform the changes listed below:

    * check "Display contents of system folders"

    * check "Show hidden files and folders"

    * uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types"

    * uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

    - click "Apply" and then "OK" to exit.

NOTE: On Microsoft Windows Vista you will apply the same steps except for selecting "Display contents of system folders".

    Thank you .

    Hi Alex

I tried deleting the file as suggested and the activity bar came back correctly. I checked the system32 folder and the file was still not there. However, on trying it again, the activity bar did not appear and on checking the system32 folder, the file "user_gensett.xml" had been recreated. So it does seem to be a problem with this file. Here is the link to the Sendspace file : http://www.sendspace.com/file/wsdbqp which is the file from the C:\Documents and Settings\<currentuser>\Application Data\BitDefender\Desktop\Profiles folder. I notice that the line <show_abar>0</show_abar> has the setting of 0 but if I reset the option to display the activity bar, the file then shows <show_abar>1</show_abar>. However, the file that was recreated in the system32 folder remains with the setting of 0.

    I am using XP.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers Baz

  • Thanks Alex. The scan activity bar seems gone now, but I do still get the 'activation messages'.

    Hello Woudenberg,

Please make sure that you have BitDefender correctly activated under your account. In order to do this, open BitDefender in Expert Mode, click on the Registration module and under Registration Information, look if you have your email address typed correctly. Also, if possible, please take a screen-shot of this window, upload it on http://www.sendspace.com/ then send me a personal message (PM) with the download link.

    Thank you .

I sent a pm with the link, but don't know whether it worked (it's not in sent items, but when I tried resending it I got a message that I wouldn't be able to sent another pm for a couple of minutes, implying succes). Please let me know if you didn't get it, I'll send it again.

    Thanks in advance!

I keep setting the "Scan activity bar visibility" to display, but the setting won't stick. Every time I reboot I have to go back to "General|Settings|Show the scan activity bar" and unset/reset and the bar comes back. I've also got the display set in the overall settings to display the activity bar.

Please don't tell me to uninstall/re-install BDAV. Is there something else I might try? This is on my wife's PC. Mine works as expected.

In spite of the fact that I hate the uninstall/re-install fix-it method of problem solving, I uninstalled and re-installed BDAV 13.0.15.xxx disallowing the update. After the installation, I set all of my normal settings, did a scan, then allowed it to do an update to 13.0.17.343. All is well.

BTW, I checked the settings in "user_gensett.xml" on both my PC and my wife's and the settings are the same. The app appears to ignore the settings anyway since show_abar is set to "0".

Thanks. I'll hope that it will remain visible until you find a fix.

    Hey Alex

How long before we get a fix for this annoying fault. It's now some 2 months since I raised the matter and sent you the requested information. Surely 2 months is not acceptable to fix what must be a simple software tweak. Every time I reboot, I have to reselect the option which is not good for a product like BD. Can you give me a completion date and if not, how long does it normally take to get a fix for such an error in the software? Some action please......

  • I have a problem with bar scan, I do not appear even after restart, even after unchecking and then checking the option.I no idea what to do, I have Vista x64 Home Premium SP2. plss help me with a solution. Thank you in advance :(

    Hi BD

Any news on this yet, I have just upgraded to 2010 and am very dissappointed with this simple issue. I am not going to be upgrading my other PCs until this is resolved. What is the news on any progress with it? It surely isn't such a huge issue . . .

It's me again. This problem still persists. I've tried the recommended fixes, but it still is broken. When will this be resolved?

I have still the same problem on my PC with XP. The scan activity tray allways comes back after rebooting. I changed all possible settings, but nothing works! On my laptop with Vista ( with the same Bitdefender 2010 serialkey as on my XP-pc ) the problem is solved...

I want to get rid of the tray!

  • The problem is solved. I got answer from customer service, and reinstalled an English 2010 version of BD security. The bar doesn't apear anymore. One more question: how can I change the language from English to Dutch?

  • Hello all,

A new major update was released last week, Build 13.0.20.347, and the Scan Activity Bar issue was solved. Please let us know if the issue persists after this update.

ouzo777: We inform you that the major update was released only for the English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Romanian versions. It will be released in a couple of days for other languages. If you want to switch to the Dutch version we recommend you install it next week.

You will have to use our uninstall tool in order to remove the English version and then download and run the installation kit in Dutch. Please tell me what BitDefender product you are using and also if your operating system is on 32 or 64 bits and I will provide you with the download link.

    Thank you.

  • Carmen, I have 32bits. Thanks in advance!

Many thanks, it now seems to be working fine for me on the English version.
