Bdav 2010 Slows Down The Internet Connection

I have bought BD AV 2010 a couple of days ago. My internet connection slowed down unpleasingly after I installed the product. There is no problem if emule is off. But when emule is on; there is no activity on internet browsing unless limiting emule connection to 1/5. Before, I was using another AV software and never had any kind of trouble. Is there anybody out there having the same trouble?

Dear Alex,

I am not quite sure if we both refering to same product., 'cause I have no "Firewall" section or tab in BD Antivirus. On the other hand, I don't have any trouble with emule download, it works just fine. The trouble is to browse through internet explorer when emule running. Any idea?

Just in testing purpose we would like you follow the steps bellow :

1. Open BitDefender in Expert Mode and disable the Update module permanently. You will have to do this only while you perform the steps bellow.

2. Start your computer in Safe Mode.

- restart the computer;

- repeatedly press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load (you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu);

- select "SAFE MODE" in the text menu and press "Enter".

- wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click "Yes" to acknowledge.

3. Go to the next location C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010 and rename the files httproxy.dll in httproxy.d_ .

4. Restart your computer in Normal Mode, make sure eMule is active and let us know if you still have the same issue .

The issue looks like resolved. Thank you for all your help. Now, should I do anything (like turn auto-update back on or leave as it is)? ...Or, was that a temporary resolution?

httproxy.dll was alrerady there together with httproxy.d__ that I renamed. Should I delete the new one and rename the old one?

It didn't help at all. It reverted back to previous situation. I have done all the things you explained but no luck. I am unable to browse internet when emule is on without limiting emule download speed to 20kb/s as same in the beginning. My OS is Vista Ultimate by the way. Emule is downloading at full speed and I am openning the internet browser (same applies to both firefox and int. exp. by the way), writing an address to address bar. Then enter... No activity at all. I am limiting emule download speed to 3/4 and half. There is no activity until it is limited to 20-30kb/s. I know it is not sound logical but this is the exact case. After emule is limited to 20kb/s, browsing starts at superspeed. Strange...

Do you have any clue about the reason why? And is there any problem if I change httproxy.dll to httproxy.d__ again and leave it like that?

If you choose to rename the httproxy.dll file, you will need to set the BitDefender update to download only the virus signatures updates, otherwise this file will be re-downloaded . Just in testing purpose we would like you try the steps described by my colleague, that will help you add eMule to exceptions from the BitDefender HTTP scanning . Here is what you have to do :

First of all, save these instructions in your PC.
Then restart your computer in SafeMode (restart your system, and while it's booting press F8 multiple times, until the Boot Menu appears. There, select Safe Mode and press Enter).
After the system boot_s up in Safe Mode, a message will appear asking you if you want to continue (Yes), or make a System Restore (No). Press Yes, to start normally.
go to Start -> Run, type regedit and press OK
Registry Editor will open, and you'll see an Explorer-like interface (the "folders" on the left are called keys, the "files" on the right are called values)
as you'd browse in Explorer, go to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BitDefender

and select it.

to create a new value, right click on the right panel (where you can see the values), and select New -> Multi-String Value from the menu, and name it HttpAppSkip
After that, double click the newly created value. A popup window will appear, where you can set the Value data of that value. There type the full path of the application that you want to exclude, in your case, eMule path (path+filename of the executable).
Click OK, close Registry Editor, and reboot your system normally (just choose Restart)

After the system starts, test to see if the problem persists and post back the result.

I have already done this on previous step in line with your referred link and it didn't work. The subjected registry key is already created and modified as explained. Do you have any other suggestion?

Please click on Start from Windows, choose Run, type regedit then click on Ok. Go to the next location, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\, right click on the BitDefender registry entry and choose Export . Select your Desktop as the location where you want to save that file, type in a name then click on Save . Upload the file on http://www.sendspace.com/ then post here the download link .
