Update Causes Wga Error

I have been working with microsoft tech support trying to track down the cause of windows Genuine advantage error. After uninstalling bit defender total security, the WGA error is resolved. I have reinstalled bit defender total security 2010 and the error has occurred again. The installation of the software does not immediately cause the error. When i perform the update to bit defender, windows vista immediately flags itself as invalid and triggers the message that an unauthorized change to windows has occurred.

There are several side effects when this error message is triggered. Control panel will not open properly. The control panel window will instantly close itself as soon as the window is created. After the initial scan of the computer, automatic scans will no longer work. No malicious programs or viruses are found by the scan.

  • Hello agentf,

Just in testing purpose please try the steps bellow :

    1. Open BitDefender in Expert Mode, click on the Antivirus module and under the Shield tab click on the Advanced Settings button .

    2. The BitDefender Active Virus Control Settings window should be displayed. Temporarily disable this option then look if the same error messages occurs after that.

    Thank you.

I performed the setting changes you specified and it has apparently resolved the issue. I first restarted the computer after making the above changes, and ran the Microsoft genuine advantage diagnostic tool, which reported the flagged state of windows vista as genuine.
