What Is Win32.virtob.v? Cannot Disinfect! Help!

Options

I just bought BitDefender Plus V.10 because it was hopeless... All my .exe files were toast... Only thing I can do now is get help from a non-computerized processing program and that would be humans :P.

The deal is almost all the files scanned were .exe files and they were infected by the virus called:

Win32.Virtob.V

BD told me that it couldn't disinfect the files thus they moved it into quarantine... How do I disinfect the files? Are the files still infected?

Thanks,

Eusebius

  • There aren't very good news. Virtob is a file infector which remains resident in memory, infecting .exe and maybe .scr files. You may try to scan your computer in safe mode, by following this. Please post if it helped you or not.

  • You can find more information on this virus here: http://www.bitdefender.com/VIRUS-1000163-e...234%7D.Gen.html

You could also send us some samples of infected files (5-10 samples), using the upload function in the forum. Don't forget to archive them in a password protected ZIP or RAR (please use 'infected' for the password).

  • I was wondering if I deleted all the .exe files from the computer including all the system files and utilize the repair function on the xp boot cd will I be able to wipe it out?

I don't think you can actually do that. Windows needs a lot of exe files to run, so you just cannot delete them. But using the Repair function should solve this problem (because it should detect the system files that have been modified and should restore the originals from the CD).

Of course, it doesn't hurt to just try and see if it works.

If there are some files that you cannot delete, follow these instructions here to do it: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=1054 Warning! Do NOT use this method to delete sytem files, because your system might not start at all after that!.
