Help With The Rescue Disk

Options

So...I'm trying to backup what files I can with the BitDefender recovery CD I made after this fake 5 deal. But it's not working. It starts out looking just like the image here: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/business/#417

However, when it gets to the line "Scanning for USB/Firewire devices... Done." that's the last good process it goes through. The next lines read:

Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.

Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.

Press reset button to quit.

Additional builtin commands available:

Cat mount umount

insmod rmmod lsmod

knoppix#

There is a blinking cursor after the last line.

The computer has an external hard drive plugged in, that does work. (I tested it on this laptop to make sure).

Any help would be appreciated. I just want to backup what I can so I can reformat. I've admitted defeat.

  • Please check if you can boot the system with the latest Knoppix version available here:

    http://knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html

  • I downloaded and burned the latest image to a disk. It boot_s from the disk fine, opening up an operating system that I assume is Linux/Knoppix? But, then when I shutdown and put the recovery disk in, I still get the same error. Am I suppose to install the Knoppix to my computer some how? Or switch disks and then start from the recovery disk while in Knoppix? I wish I could just use Knoppix to copy files from but it doesn't recognize my external hard drive while I'm in Knoppix.

  • Thanks for nothing BitDefender. I gave you the chance to salvage some form of the possibility of my return as a customer. Your pathetic customer service and this entire experience ruined that. Enjoy bankruptcy. It's all you deserve after this dismal showing of support, expertise, patch testing and transparency of what happened in this entire event. I only feel bad for the customers you screwed over, especially the ones hurt worse then myself.

  • Hello Thurmas,

We are very sorry for the late response to your posts and for any inconvenience created. Please be so kind as to let us know if you managed to run the patch from this KB article or you still need assistance for using the Rescue CD.

    Thank you.
