"scan Failed To Execute" Error Message

I didn't want to hijack this user's topic: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=20040 so I started a new one. I am having the same problem on my Win7 Pro x64 laptop. I don't know exactly when the problem first started. As you can see, it did complete a scheduled system scan 2 days ago. I get the same message when I click on any one of the 5 Run Task buttons. I searched the forum and found several topics reporting the same problem, but I could find no real solution.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

  • I just used the clean uninstall tool to remove BDAV and then reinstalled it. I still have the same problem.

I still need some help... please.

  • Hello nikki605,

The error message you posted has been fixed in a previous build.

Please make sure your BitDefender is up to date and also post the build version.

To find out this information you need to right click on the BitDefender icon (lower right corner) and select About.

If your BitDefender is up to date then please send me by PM a sysdump report so I can see what's wrong.

In this KB article you will find all the necessary information required to create the log.

    Thank you !

  • The build I have is 13.0.21.347, virus signatures 6204353, engine version 7.33217

If this is the latest version and you still want me to PM you, please let me know.

  • Yes,this is the latest version.

Please send me by PM the sysdump log :)

  • Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I attach files to a PM on this board?

  • Hi Nikki,

You can upload the sysdump.tar file HERE then send Christian a PM with the download link.

  • OK, now I understand. I thought there was a way to directly attach a file to a PM and I just couldn't figure out how to do it. I will go do that now... :)

  • Files uploaded & PM sent to Cristi.

  • Christian - I'm just bumping this topic to verify that you received my PM with the download links.

I am still getting the "Scan failed to execute" errors on this Win7 Pro x64 laptop even though BD says the problem was fixed in a previous release. I am running build 13.0.21.347 and have already tried using the clean removal tool and reinstalling BDAV. That was no help, same problem.

    Thanks,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

  • PM sent with requested info. Await your reply.

    Thanks,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary, got the PM and all the logs. You'll have my answer via email in the next 24 hours.

    Regards,

  • Thanks for the update. I'll wait to hear. :)

  • Daniel - I know you are still reviewing the files you had me submit, but I wanted to give you an update from my end. I used msconfig and did a Selective startup with only the system services loaded - I unchecked "Load startup items." I rebooted the laptop & from the BDAV Antivirus-->Virus Scan tab I was able to run the My Documents, Auto-logon & Quick System Scans. The System Scan has started & is running now.

So something being loaded at startup is conflicting with running the BDAV scans. Once the System Scan has completed, I'll try adding back a few Startup items at a time in msconfig to see if I can isolate the conflicting program.

I'm down to 17 days in my trial period on this laptop. I just loaded BDAV on my third PC (the config is the last line in my signature). I have to make a decision soon & really want to run the same a/v software on all 3 PCs, so getting the problem resolved on the Win7 x64 laptop is becoming more urgent.

  • After the System Scan completed, I used msconfig and went back to a normal startup. With all the original startup items re-enabled, I thought I would try to run the scans again. They ran normally. The Deep System Scan is running right now, with all startup items enabled.

I hate results like this, but so typical in my experience. <img class=" /> All I can say is that after temporarily disabling the startup items and running the 3 scans successfully, the scans are now continuing to run successfully with the startup items re-enabled. I'm not sure what to make of this result.

All I can do is continue to monitor the scans and report any more problems. If you do find anything unusual in the files I uploaded, please let me know.
