Install Problem
hello
Here is an elderly pc running w98. It has been running bit defender satisfactorily, until today, when an error message arrived to the effect that the program could not start. Silly me, i didn't write down the exact text of the error.
Did an update from the bit defender site. It took 2 goes but seemed to work and did a disk scan etc.
On restarting the pc again, up comes the error message that file bdch.dll is missing.
Is the problem that bd 10+ is incompatible with w98?
Any suggestions for fixing this would be much appreciated.
best regards

Hi s_perkin,
Is the problem that bd 10+ is incompatible with w98?
I assume you are running BitDefender Antivirus Plus v10, right? (Please be more specific about what version of BitDefender you use, because it's very important when trying to solve a problem).
As for your question: BitDefender AV Plus needs at least Windows 98SE. If you are running Windows 98 (non-SE), then BD might have some problems running correctly. I suggest you update your Windows to SE.
On the other hand, this might not be a compatibility issue between Windows and BD. It could just be that (maybe) Windows didn't shut down correctly and some files got corrupted. Usually, updating BitDefender should fix this problem, but not always. I suggest the following:
- fix your current BD installation: put in your BD Installation CD, run the installer and choose Repair. This operation should check for any missing/corrupted files in BD and replace them. If everything goes fine (and BD works OK), try to make an update to BD.
- make a fresh, new install of BD: Uninstall BitDefender using this tool. It will erase absolutely everything related to BitDefender. Then download from the internet the newest version of BD v10 (look here) and install it.
Please post if you solved your problem.
