Removing Stubborn Trojan Downloader

Options

Hello.

I've been trying to clean my system (XP Pro) of an awful infection for over a week now.

I've tried all the manual deletion procedures, but still no luck.

I'm also running BitDefender Antivirus 2008 build 11.0.12 which keeps finding the infected .DLL and blocking access to it, however, it cannot remove it.

I've also goggled the said DLL and I can't seem to find any info on it.

I'm hoping somone can provide some ideas.

Thanks in advance.

  • I finally managed to delete the file.

I ended up having to install a 2nd Windows just to allow me to browse the HDD files without loading the infected DLLs into memory.

  • A simpler solution would have been to boot off the install cd into the recovery console, as described in this topic: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=1054.

  • Unfortunately, for some reason the CD I could find would not let me boot off it. It may have not been a bootable CD or corrupt.

I had to "borrow" another CD which I'm guessing had a different version since it wouldn't allow me any recovery option.
