[resolved]Bitdefender Internet Security 2011 Not Repsonding

Hi.

Im am trying to fix my parents problems with bitdefender, as they are bascily computer illiterate.

The program icon goes grey, and says 'Bit Defender Services not responding....).

I realise there are already some posts on this topic, but they require personal computer stats, hardware etc. So here are mine, any help would be great.

Program is:

Bit Defender Internet Seciurtiy 2011

OS: Windows XP Service pack 3

Hardware:

Intel Pentium D 3.40GHz CPU

2 Gb Ram, I think DDR 2 (I could check)

No other anti virus/firewall or any other relevant programs are installed.

BD released a new build (14.0.28.351) yesterday as described HERE.

Verify if the update has been applied to your parent's PC. If not, manually do an Update Now. Let us know if their problem is resolved.

I understand what you are going through. I do remote support for my 87 year old in-law's PC. ;)

    Thanks.

The link you provided me says 'Update method: Automatically by Live Update module.'

Ive pressed the 'update now' option on the bitdefender icon, which opens the update screen. Nothing is shown except for a title, a description of what the updater does, and a 'status: none', and 'downloaded 0kb'.

Is there any links of which i can download this update manually?

  • You did it right. That is the manual update process. Now, when you right-click on the BD icon, click on "About" and see what build number is displayed. It should be 14.0.28.351

Is the version of BD you have an English version?

    It says: Build 14.0.24.337

Yes it is an english version.

  • One last easy thing to try before the steps get more difficult... try rebooting the PC, wait at least 30 minutes for BDIS to auto-update the program itself. Then check the About screen again.

    No change there...

  • OK. The next thing is to try a repair of BD. Note, this will reset any of the options you may have customized back to factory defaults. You may want to make note of any changes before doing the repair so you can re-input them later.

From the Windows Start button: All Programs-->BitDefender 2011-->Repair or Remove

Follow the on-screen instructions to Repair. After the repair is complete and you have rebooted the PC, BD will have been set back to it's original build version. You will have to do an Update Now which will update the program to the current build. You may find that you have to do the Update Now more than once. Be sure to reboot the PC after each Update Now that you try.

Let us know if that works for you.

  • Hi,

Please check and see if you receive any error message when trying to update BitDefender. If so, post a screenshot of that error here.
