Internet Connection Sharing Problem With Bitdefender Internet Security 2008

I have a 3G internet connection on my main work PC, which is shared via ICS. After upgrading to Bitdefender Internet Security 2008, the other pc's cannot use the internet, they can share and see files on the main pc but NO internet. The only way I can get it to work is to untick "Bitdefender Firewall NDIS Filter Driver" in my network properties for my network card.

I have added the other pc's ip address as being trusted in the BD Firewall, made sure that "Enable ICS Support" is ticked under Advanced in BD.

Nothing seems to help. I have also emailed Bitdefender Technical Support, they gave me something to try and asked me to send them some log files, which I did, but have not heard anything since (been 3 weeks now). I have spoken to Live support and they told me to just wait for tech support to email me back - what a great solution!!! <img class=" />

This is a work PC and I really need it working, if I don't find a solution soon I am going to remove Bitdefender and install Panda or Norton rather (better tech support as far as I'm concerned)

  • There seems to be a definate fault with Internet Connection Sharing in Bitdefender 2008 - I have found other posts with the same problem - checkout Andrejvr and totalmortality

Why is Bitdefender not attending to this problem - when you phone support, they just tell you to try this and try that - after which nothing helps - it seems as though they just try to get rid of you as quickly as possible: "try these steps and your problem will be solved" then you try and it does'nt work and you have to phone back and go through the whole process again.

still waiting for technical support to email me

  • Hi Digimetic,

Do you, by any chance, have a nForce based network card? Because if you do, BD2008 could have problems with it (BD2008 currently has a bug with these cards).

Also, are the other PCs in the same subnet? If yes, did you add in BD Firewall the subnet as a trusted zone? This might fix the problem.

If this doesn't fix it, please post. I'll try something later today and see if ICS is a problem with BD2008 and how can it be fixed.

    Hi Cris,

No my work PC has a Realtek 8139 PCI Lan card.

The PCs are in the same subnet (255.255.255.0) but I don't think I added the subnet as being trusted, The main PC's IP address is 192.168.0.1 and the other PCs follow suite (ie 192.168.0.2/3/4/5 etc) I have added the 192.168.0.2/3/4/5 IP addresses as being trusted, but will check tomorrow if I can add the subnet and will let you know what happens.

    Thank you for your efforts.

  • OK I checked, I think the subnet is added as being trusted - It is added as 192.168.0.0 - which I assume is the subnet you are talking about.

Still unable to use ICS - Cris did you try ICS at all?

  • Hi Digimedic,

Yes, I tried ICS but with BD IS v10 (at home, where I have multiple PCs connected at the same network account). As soon as I get the chance, I'll upgrade to BDv11 at home and see exactly what's happening. Unfortunately, this won't happen very soon (I'm going home once at every two weeks and I've just been this weekend). :(

OK, thanks Cris, BD 10 works fine, I was using 10 with no problems, as soon as I installed 2008, ICS refuses to work.

Still no reply from Bitdefender Support...

  • still no reply from Bitdefender tech support - problem still exists!!!

    ridiculous!!!
