Bd Deepscan Does Not Complete

Hello, I am a new user of BitDefender. I can not get any scan of my computer to complete without my system freezing up and rebooting. I downloaded BitDefender and tried to do the initial scan after I installed the software. It finds 4 infected files, but then my computer freezes up before BD can remove the viruses.

The Scan always fails on the same file "lfpcx13n.dll" which is located in the "c:\program files/microsoft works" directory.

I attempted to delete this file, but any time I highlight the file in Windows Explorer to delete it, my computer freezes up and I have to reboot.

I then attempted to delete the file via the command line and I get an access denied message.

I am stuck. BD can not get to the phase where it removes the viruses since it can not complete a scan for viruses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what you said, it seems that the culprit is that particular file. Whenever something tries to access it, the computer freezes.

It might be a virus or it might be something else. But, to be sure, do this: put the file (assuming you can copy it without your computer crashing) in a zip file, protected by the password infected and attach it to a new thread in the Malware section (don't attach it in the General section, because other users might download it and, if it's a virus, they'll get infected). BD Virus Analysts will take a look at it and tell you if it's virus or not.

If you cannot access the file to archive it, follow the instructions HERE, but DON'T DELETE THE FILE. Instead, use the ren function (it is also explained there). If some process is keeping the file locked, renaming it will make it unavailable to that process and you'll be able to access it and archive it.

Hi. Thank you for the fast response. I was able to rename it, but I still get Access Denied. I will attempt to put it into a zip file when I get home.

I will also try excluding it from my scan. I would like to remove the infected files that I can get to.

To exclude a folder during an on demand open BitDefender go to antivirus,scanning,rightclick on the scan you wanted to execute choose change scanpath press on add new folder and browse to the folder you don't wanted to be scanned. Don't forget to uncheck it. To exclude a folder in realtime mode go to shield,custom level,exclude path from scan,add (new) item and browse to the folder you don't wanted to be scanned press on ok.

Can you please post the scanreport of the latest scan. To do so go to general,events,use the filter for anti-virus, doubelclick on your last scanreport press on more info.

Try to move that particular file to quarantaine. That is safer in this case. First double click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock when you are in the BitDefender Security Center press on settings,antivirus,quarantaine. Now select lfpcx13n.dll and keep your leftmouse button pressed and release it when you are in the quarantaine section.
