Port Scans?

Options

I get quite a lot of "Port Scan blocked - You are protected" messages.

Why is that so? the IP shown is always different, or well I think there are 2 different IP's.

What's going on?

I also noticed sometimes my Window 7 PC switches to non aero without me doing anything but it might not be related.

  • This is an older topic, but the information in the last post from DanyDan may offer some help: read here. It would also help if you could post the actual ip addresses as this information would help identify the source.

    Regards,

    I took a screenshot of the pop-up.

    The IP is: 94.228.68.132

Even after tracing the IP I don't really know why the port scan happen, none of the info on this page tells me anything and I am pretty certain that I have none of their software installed on my system.

Actually after checking my program list I noticed software I didn't use for a long time which seems to come from that company. I deleted it so hopefully I won't see those pop-ups again.

  • That was some good hunting. :)

As DanyDan explained in his post in the older topic, the port scan may be harmless. The program could have been doing a "phone home" checking for updates. If you registered the program with the company's website they may have your IP address which is how they know how to find you.

At least you know BD is doing it's job and blocking the port scans. ;)

Hopefully, uninstalling the program will stop the port scans as you stated.

    Regards,

  • Guess I was wrong.

I got another port scan but this time from another IP.

This is the trace to the IP

I seriously have no idea what kind of company that actually is..

  • I got another portscan from another IP.

  • BitDefender appears to be working correctly in that it is blocking the port scans. It sounds like you either do not have a router with a hardware firewall, or if you do, it may not be configured properly. If you want to investigate the source of these port scans further, I would recommend posting your problem on the bleepingcomputer.com website forum as the user in this topic did.

That forum has a good reputation for helping users with problems like yours.

    Good luck!
