Antivirus False Positives?

I got an alert saying that antivirus detected issues; the yellow triangle w/white exclamation mark was showing.

I then ran BitDefender's virus scan on my hard drive. It came up with nothing...nada.

What would cause false positives?

Intel Mac w/OS 10.5.8.
