Vsserv.exe Ram Hog. Vista
Hey guys, i know this is the most common problem out there with bit defender, but i couldnt find a good enough solution for this problem on vista, so here goes.
the ''vsserv.exe'' resource/process is reserving wayy too much memory than it actually requires. i have checked with resource monitor and process explorer (3rd party s/w)
vsserv.exe seems to be taking the most memory. i used to use avast before, had no problems of such kind.
PROBLEM + SPECS:
vsserv.exe starts the commit (kb) at around 15-20k, then slowly increases it as i use the laptop normally. it has peaked at 410k, while the working set (kb) is only around 10-15k max.

looking at other forum posts, i think these are the basic required details. i hope you can find a solution quickly, as i am contemplating whether my decision to use BitDefender 2011 is regrettable.
thanks

Hello,
- that means that you do not have the latest updates installed as the correct build must be: 14.0.29.354.BitDefender Total Security 2011 build 14.0.29.354 of branch 14.24
Right click on the BitDefender icon in the system tray and select 'Update Now'. Wait for the Update to complete then restart the PC.
Last but not least, considering that you are using a PC with the minimum system requirements on the RAM memory, facing a slowdown is normal to happen. To reduce it you can disable some of the BitDefender settings and features that you may not need such as Parental Control, Encryption or Home Network.
Try to set BitDefender to best reflect your needs and see if there are any changes in the memory hogging. Keep in mind that also Windows Vista is one of the Operating System having the biggest PC resources usage (memory usage).
Kind regards,0 -

err...as you can clearly see, my build is the correct one i.e 14.0.29.354, so i dont know why you said i dont. also, i have run more demanding programs with this system. also, nearly all of vista's useless services are turned off, including windows aero, so at idle, vista takes less that 150mb of ram. so i dont know why a simple AV program needs 450mb when a whole OS uses only 150mb?0 -

I said you don't have the latest build because you posted in your original topic:-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the slowdown query please read below:Last but not least, considering that you are using a PC with the minimum system requirements on the RAM memory, facing a slowdown is normal to happen.
Furthermore, even if you disabled most of the Vista services please keep in mind that each and every program running on the PC (Winamp, any messengers, Internet Explorer, Daemon tools etc) will use a certain amount of memory therefore the RAM you have on your PC will never be fully available.
You can also check the Windows Vista requirements below:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...em-requirements
What you are referring to when you mention that Vista is using less than 150 MB of RAM, is when the system is IDLE, not when you are using the PC as you would normally do.
Considering all the information above, I find your slowdown complain unjust. The only recommendation I could give you is the same as the one made in my previous post: to disable the modules that you don't use within BitDefender Total Security.0
