2 Viruses - Pc Won't Boot Up
Hi Guys,
After running BitDefender, I realized my computer is infected with two Trojans.
They seem to be:
DeepScan:Generic.Zlob.7.1FED44BB
Trojan.Downloader.Zlob.AAWD
I'll admit, I was searching for a serial for a program, and worst came to worst. I'll defiantly never be doing that again. My files are extremely important (School, Clients etc.) and I can not loose them.
After updating my Norton, and running a scan - nothing was found. I decided to Restart then try again. However this time, the computer locked up after the Windows XP Screen - just before the login window shows. It currently doesn't get past that point.
I'm in Safe Mode now posting this.
Below is my hijack this log:

Hello MikeP
Did you already performed a scan with AVG in safe mode? If not perform a complete scan or how it's called.
Check the box before the following entries and press on fix checked

When you are in the mode where you can select safe mode choose for load last working configuration.
When you are in normal mode I recommend that you download superantispyware.
Install it double click on the shortcut after that press on the icon which looks like a bug (insect) rightclick on it and press on check for updates. When it's done reboot your pc in safe mode start the program and choose for a complete scan.
Best regards

I did not run a scan yet with AVG, because for some reason it wasn't letting me install software in SafeMode. I think BitDefender managed to delete one of the viruses because now my computer does actually start up.
Keeping in mind I do have Norton installed, will that be a problem with AVG? For example, at the end of the installation file, I received this message:Local machine: installed successfully
Installation:
Warning: Action failed for registry value HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Component Categories\{56FFCC30-D398-11D0-B2AE-00A0C908FA49}:409: creating registry value....
Access is denied. (5)
Though I'll run a scan and let you know the results0 -
After running the scan, it seemed to find the trojan. To make sure, I ran the scan twice. The second time came up clean. So I rebooted my computer and it gets past the XP loading screen, but now freezes at "Windows is now starting up" so right before the login page.
I restarted, pressed F8, and choose "startup with last known configuration that worked" and that seemed to get passed that freezing error.
I now get an error popup window named "Windows Security Alert" which states.. Windows has dectected an Internet attack attempt... Somebody is trying to infect your PC with spyware or harmful viruses. Run a full scan blah blah.. Click here to download spyware remover.
I think the above has to do with the virus - as I've never seen such sort of error so I am not going to click Ok.
Though I don't really know what to do now.

Hello MikeP,
Please fix the following lines:O21 - SSODL: ocgrep - {C8B1D99D-2C7F-4C60-912C-4823EA622F4A} - C:\WINDOWS\ocgrep.dll

Hello MikeP
That isn't a genuine windows security center message but a kind of advertisement for downloading the rogue (bad) product. Do not click on it.
Fix the entries that I told you to check. Try again downloading superantispyware. Perform that scan also in safe mode. Please make a new log but use the this version of hijackthis.
Best regards
Niels0 -
Hi Niels,
Yeah, I figured it wasn't an error from my computer - but rather the virus itself.
Pretty sure it is the Zlob.x virus that is infected on my PC.
Here is the hijack log after deleting those two items.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Currently my computer will not get past the login screen without booting from "last known good configuration" When I try to do it normally, it just freezes. This happens when I try to do anything from the screen (sign on, turn off computer, or even press the help arrow)0 -
Hello MikeP,
Fix this line also:F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=
Also, do you know the site softwarereferral.com or the product Ultimate Cleaner 2007? If you don't, fix also this line:R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=6010&mid=MjI6Ojg5&lid=2
If you do know the above site or the product, are you the one who set it to be the default StartPage in Internet Explorer? If you didn't make it the default StartPage, fix the above line.

Removed both.
Yeah when the virus was giving me those two popup windows, it was triggering the launch of IE. The page that loaded was some weird URL.
So my computer stats up fine now, as it used to. But SpyBot Search and Destroy keeps showing this message upon startup
Category: Session manager
Change: Value Added
Entry: ExcludeFromKnownDlls
Not exactly sure what this means.
I also have no idea if the virus is still on my computer. Things are not running up to the same speed as it was before my computer got infected - that's for sure.
Is there anyway I can show you my startup items, while in msconfig? When my computer wasn't booting up - I changed it to normal startup, instead of selective (where I chose items manually, just by guessing what was important)

Hi MikeP,
The startup programs appear in the HijackThis log. As far as I can see, there's nothing there that's suspicious. But I'll take a closer look and see if I can suggest you what to remove (maybe not infected files, but useless applications that slow down your PC).
As for the virus...it shouldn't be on your PC anymore. Try another DeepScan with BitDefender and with your antispyware solution.
Also, there are some other weird links set in Internet Explorer (as HijackThis reports). I'll check out all of them and tell you if they should be fixed.
About the error in SpyBot S&D...I have no idea. I used SpyBot for a long while (currently I don't have it installed anymore), nut I never got such a message. Could you make a screenshot of it and post it? Maybe we can figure it out from a screenshot.

Thanks for the fast replies Chris - really appreciate it.
I'll do another BitDefender scan, and see what comes up.
Currently have an AVG scan going and it found one infection:
Boot sector of Disk / Reading error / C:
Here's the screenshot of the two windows0 -
Hello MikeP,
First of all, what AVG detected is not an infection. It's something a lot more worse: as it says, it couldn't read the boot sector. That means that there are some issues: either the HDD has bad sectors, either the virus affected the boot sector. Try another AV and see if you get the same error (be sure to enable the checking of the Boot Sector).
Also, try to run ScanDisk for all partitions.
About the SpyBot alert... did you press on the button with a question mark (?) on it? What does it say?
I'll try to see if I can find something out about this alert (but I don't guarantee anything).

Hello tempest_inc,
Please start a new topic. Don't interfere in other user's topics if you want to ask something completely different. This is called OFF-TOPIC and it's considered SPAM.
So: make a HijackThis scan and post it in a new topic!

You could try to remove these items from startup:O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\UPDATE~1\ISUSPM.exe -startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
But I don't think it will make a big difference.
However, what WILL make a big difference is removinf all those security applications that you have. You are running in the same time 4 security solutions: BitDefender, Norton AV, AVG and SpyBot S&D. This can cause the system to respond extremely slow because of lack of resources. And, furthermore, all these AV products can interfere with each other, causing unwanted behavoiur (maybe the error that AVG showed was because of this).
So: please remove all AV programs, including BitDefender (using specific Uninstall Tools: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=1379). Then choose which one you want to keep and install only that (you have to uninstall all of tem first, so that you can make a fresh install of one of them...to ensure a correct execution).
You can keep SpyBot S&D, but disable it's realtime protection. Just use it as On-Demand scanner, every once in a while (maybe once every week, or once at two weeks).

Hey Chris,
I will try your new suggestions when I get home.
Basically the only reason why I have those all installed was because I was freaking out when I realized my PC was infected. Norton was what I was originally running and I really don't understand I didn't even get notified when the files / registry was being infected.
I'm deleting Norton ASAP and installing a full version of AVG as I heard it is a million times better.
As for the boot error - I don't understand how that arrived either. Currently my computer boot_s up fine... maybe you're right about it interfering with the other AV programs, at least I HOPE so.
So I'll purchase the full version, uninstall Norton and any other AV programs, however keep SpyBod S&D, then run a deep scan and let you know the results.
Thanks0 -
Deleted Norton, as well as any other spywayre removal tools - Installed AVG Full Version
After scanning - it just found a few cookies, which I removed.

Things seem to be a bit better, yet not 100%. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.. But when I try and launch some programs, or even navigate through my pc, sometimes simple things just hang for a few seconds, then kick back in. For example, I never once saw the magnify-glass searching icon while loading My Computer, whereas now I almost always do.

Hello all. i was having the same problem, and after using the SuperAntiSpyware tool, it's GONE!! (jeez, i sound like a commercial! LOL) Anyway... it actually DID work... and i'm happy.
Thanks to the person who took the time to post the solution. You're a life saver dude!!

Hello Mike,
You say you deleted Norton... did you use the Uninstall Tool, or you just went to Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled it?
I'm asking this because, in your HJ log, there are still traces of Norton. Please fix this line:O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe
I'm having doubts about another line in the log, but I'll check it and get back to you.
About the hang times...maybe AVG scans files slower then Norton, which makes your computer non-responsive when you open folder with a big number of files (like when you open My Computer). Try to temporarily disable AVG and see if the hang times persist. If they don't, then AVG is the culprit.
If they still persist, open TaskManager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), sort the list by CPU Usage and see which process is on top of the list when the system hangs.
Cris.
EDIT: Another cause of your system's hangs might be disk fragmentation. First of all, empty your Temp folder (C:\windows\temp << select all files and delete them. Don't worry, there shouldn't be important files here. If any application needs a file that you deleted from here, it will just re-create it). Then right click on your C partition, select Properties -> Tools -> Defragment now. Defragment all your HDD partitions and see if the situation improves.0 -
Hey Chris,
Yep, I used the Norton Removal tool. Deleted that one line as well, so I should be good to go.
I'm still getting that popup window for ExcludeFromKnowndlls.
Thought I'm in a rush to get to class, so I can't really do anything now.. a bit of searching and I found this link - http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=9948
As for the Defrag. I doub't thats the case. My PC has like 4 gigs of RAM and a 1000 gigs of harddrive space
Still though, thanks for your help!
Let me know about that one other line / any other info you come up with
Cheers0 -
Hi MikeP,

After a little research, I came to this conclusion: you have to fix this line also (it belonged to Norton):O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1E8A6170-7264-4D0F-BEAE-D42A53123C75} - (no file)

Yes, what is said on that forum seems logical. Try it and see if it fixes your problem. As for the Defrag. I doub't thats the case. My PC has like 4 gigs of RAM and a 1000 gigs of harddrive space
It really doesn't matter. When you delete files from your HDD and then put other files back, the disk becomes fragmented. There's nothing you can do to prevent it and it really doesn't matter the amount of memory you have. The situation is exactly the same on HDDs of 8GB and on HDDs of 1TB (especially because Windows tends to store data on disk in a kinda random manner, which fragments the files very much). Just try it, because nothing bad can come out of it (in the worst case scenario, you won't feel any difference...but in the best case scenario, your computer will come back to life).
Also, after you try all these, please make another scan with HijackThis and post it, just to be sure everything is ok.

Hi guys. (
Forget my post from last night. i'm still stuck with it. i have the browser window as my desktop, i'm getting the pop up window explaining that "YouPrivacyGuard may find dangerous traces that ...." etc, etc. As well, there is a browser window in the lower part of my desktop with the yourprivacyguard DOT com addy. Finally, my Avast is stopping the following four files as intrusion/trojan/virus:
C:\DOCUME~1\Glenn\LOCALS~1\Temp\ac8zt2\main_uninstaller.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Glenn\LOCALS~1\Temp\ac8zt2\msmdev.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\Glenn\LOCALS~1\Temp\ac8zt2\nsduo.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\Glenn\LOCALS~1\Temp\ac8zt2\rmv.exe
I've been unable to remove the files above, since I can't find them through a search of my HD, and i've cleared whatever instances have appeared in my registry. Now, i can't find them at all, and i'm not sure where the source file(s) is/are so that i can stop them from reappearing.
Any suggestions?? i'm running Avast, so i'm not sure if i should be taking the same steps already outlined. i'm running Windows XPP, and my browswer is version 7.0.5730.11
Looking forward to any help you can provide.
Thanks,

Completed the defrag as well.
Also, I've been following another post in another forum and read to do a scan with Kaspery. Doing so, showed that my computer has 4 viruses?C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Petro\Local Settings\Temp\BIT651.tmp/ac8zt2/main_uninstaller.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.cpx
C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Petro\Local Settings\Temp\BIT651.tmp ZIP: infected - 2
etc.
I attached the text file - though it is pretty hard to read at first. So just do a "find and replace" for like, "skipped" and replace it with nothing, as well as "object is locked". That should clean up the file a bit./applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=854" data-fileid="854" rel="">kaspersky.txt

Hello Mike,
The HijackThis log looks clean.Completed the defrag as well.
Does it feel any different now?
Also, I've read that this process:O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
is quite a resource hog. If you want, you can remove it from startup list (but I think it might appear again when you start an Office application). Also, I've been following another post in another forum and read to do a scan with Kaspery. Doing so, showed that my computer has 4 viruses?

I cannot take a look at the file you attached. On this section (Malware), only Virus Analysts have access to the attached files.
Anyway, if all infections are in the temp folder, disable the Realtime protection, go to C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Petro\Local Settings\Temp\, select all files and delete them (SHIFT+DEL).
If you used the online scanner of KAV, keep in mind that it doesn't remove any infected files.
On the other hand, BD Scan online (which I see you have installed) can also remove infections and also it should know these viruses.
Do me a favour: Please, before removing the viruses, make a scan with BD and, if BD can't find these viruses, put them in a ZIP file protected by the password infected and attach it to your next post, so that BD Virus Analysts can take a look at them and add detection.
MaMojo: make a scan with HijackThis and post it in a new tread.
