Real-time Protection Is Disabled Warning

Hello,

I installed BD Internet Security 2011 in my laptop, and I receive the "real-time protection is disabled warning," even though the Antivirus-Shield module shows that the real-time protection is enabled. The Windows OS also shows that I have no antivirus protection.

I read several forums the discuss this topic and tried several suggestions mentioned there, but all without success. Here are some of the things I tried:

[1] Uninstall BD 2011 with the uninstall tool, run CCleaner, reinstall BD2011.

[1.1] Made sure that Win XP Service Pack 3 was installed on my laptop (it was)

[2] Use the Repair option in BD 2011

[3] Run the two hotfix patches (bdfslftr_1 and _2) in http://kb.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/article/810/

Everything else in BD seems to work fine, except the real-time protection module. Now I am at a loss as to what to do. I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide!

Do you have any other security software installed - a/v, firewall, tune-up utilities, malwarebytes, etc.?

If you did have any of these types of security programs previously installed how did you remove them - the program's uninstall function from the Start menu, Windows Add/Remove Programs function or did you download & run the maker's Uninstall program.

I ask the question because quite often other security programs will conflict with BD. Sometimes just uninstalling them will leave remnants behind (files or Registry entries) and can still conflict with BD.

Thanks for the quick reply ... my cat's name is Nikki by the way!

I did have Malwarebytes installed on my laptop; I had uninstalled it using the Windows Add/Remove program. Besides that, I currently have the CCleaner utility, which I used after I had installed BDIS2011.

Hello,

Finished analyzing the logs you've sent and noticed that the Real Time Protection driver is not installed in your PC, only the two Firewall drivers were present.

Considering the above I recommend you the following:

- save then open the BitDefender uninstall tool from the link below; click to start the uninstall process then WAIT TO BE ASKED to restart the PC;

- when you are asked to restart the PC do it but start Windows in Safe Mode as explained below. Run the CCleaner program you already have installed and clean the PC from eventual residues from the previous BitDefender installation. Restart the PC in normal mode and reinstall BitDefender Internet Security 2011.

Last but not least, I would recommend you to use a prior version of BitDefender considering that you have less than 1 GB RAM memory.

[how to start Windows in Safe Mode]

If Windows is the only operating system installed on your computer, start into Windows Safe Mode with these instructions:

* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Hello Daniel,

I followed your instructions to reinstall BDIS 2011 (I upgraded my laptop RAM to 1.2GB), and towards the end of the installation process I received the following error message:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753."

After clicking the OK button, I am notified that installation failed and asked to run the Uninstall Tool.

I repeated the whole process again, now using the install package in the disk that I bought, but now I cannot enter my registration key (I have the 3PC pack).

I would appreciate any help you can provide!

Please provide me with fresh logs as I do suspect that you don't have all the Redistributable packages installed or some of them are corrupted.

Generate a Support tool again please and send me the download link for it via PM.
