Vsserv.exe Slowng Things Intolerably

Out of the blue,Bitdefender Security service,vsserv.exe,has started up hogging my CPU,taking upto 50%-60% of it.

I've never had a problem with it before,but today,even after rebooting the laptop twice,it refuses to back down.

It is slowing everything in the laptop.In desperation,I tried turning off the AV,and almost everything else,but to no effect.

Could anyone suggest a remedy for this problem?

I have BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 installed on a Windows 7 32-bit laptop.

If not a fix,at least tell me how to disable the service.

I'm afraid I'll have to uninstall the AV,if no solution comes up.

I've contacted BitDefender via help too,they haven't replied thus far.

I did try that tool.

Unfortunately,when I did so,the bar never filled up even with over 20 minutes of waiting.It didn't even start,and the laptop slowed down even more.

This problem cropped up only yesterday.I haven't downloaded nor have installed anything new,and laptop's not infected either(At least,that's what the AV tells me)

1. Download this file:

2. Locate and open 'Sysdump.exe'

3. A command prompt window will appear on your screen. Please note that the information gathering process can take several minutes therefore please wait until the window disappear by itself.

4. The result will be the file called 'SYSDUMP.TAR'

5. When you have the sysdump.tar please upload it HERE

6. Include a DETAILED description of the issue you encounter: reproduce the steps you take until the issue occur and, if possible, enclose a screenshot of any error message you receive.

7. Send me a PM (Private Message) with the download link and one for the topic you started.

I've received the logs and finish the analysis. The results are as follows:

- TuneUp Utilities 2011 installed;

- Norton Internet Security installed;

1. Uninstall TuneUp Utilities from Windows Control Panel >> Programs then restart the PC;

2. Save (download) without opening the Norton uninstall tool below:

3. When the download is complete right click on the saved file and select "Run as Administrator". Proceed with the uninstall and restart the PC when requested;

4. Repair BitDefender and let me know if the issue is now resolved. Note that having multiple security solutions installed on the same PC may require a complete reinstall of BitDefender if the issue is not resolved after the repair.

BitDefender uninstall tool:

- right click on it AFTER the download is complete and select "Run as Administrator".

- Click on the "Uninstall" button then WAIT to be asked to restart the PC;

- Click on the START menu button;

- Go to All Programs -> BitDefender 2011 -> Repair or Remove;

- Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer each time you are requested to.

- Test to see if the issue still replicates.

1.TuneUp utilities has been in my system for the past 6-7 months,and it has never had a problem with BitDefender in the past.I can't see how it can suddenly become an issue.I do not wish to uninstall TuneUp Utilities.No one I know reports a problem with that and the AV together.

2.The same goes for NIS.It had been there,and had been throughly uninstalled(don't know what residues remain).Anyway,again,it was there in the system for a considerable time while BitDefender was installed.Can't really see why it would bother now.

3.As far as repair goes,I did repair the AV,it did report success,I rebooted,brought the AV up to date with updates..and the problem still persists.

I had used the removal tool for NIS as well,before the repair.

I urge you to find a practical and reasonable solution to tis problem fast,please,else I might have to dump BitDefender permanently.

To solve the roblem "vsserv.exe" do the following steps: Which I solved this problem.

1. With "Windows 7 Manager" (http://www.yamicsoft.com/windows7manager), UNINSTALL "bitdefender".

2. With "Windows 7 Manager CLEAR REGISTRY (repeat 2X).

3. With "TuneUp Utilities 2011" CLEAR REGISTRY (repeat 2x).

4. In "Windows 7 Manager" use 1-CLICK CLEANER

5. Restart Computer

6. Download (http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...l_tool_2011.exe)

7. Run "uninstall_tool_2011" (repeat 2x)

8. If you want to repeat steps (2, 3, 4, 5) - recommend

9. RESTART COMPUTER

10. Install Bitdefender some Product 2011

@Starbearer: you may have run the uninstall tool, however both drivers associated with:

- Tune-up Utilities;

- Norton Internet Security;

are present in your PC and loading upon PC start-up. I do believe that the slowdown is caused by one of these two software and the respectful module associated with that program.

Note that you need to first remove the two software then run the BitDefender repair process otherwise, it won't have any effect as those drivers will still be present in the PC.

If you have removed them both please generate the support tool again to check if the drivers were removed or not from your PC. Also, please mention your PC details: processor and RAM memory.

Last but not least, follow the steps below and send us the result:

a) Please go to this page

and download the autoruns file.

Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;

c) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;

d) Click on the Disk icon right under File and chose any location folder on your computer;

e) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then upload it to an online file hosting server and send me a PM with the two download links (for support tool and for autoruns) and the topic link for faster tracking.

1.The Norton Removal tool specified does not do anything.It just sits there in the task manager.I don't think it requires more than 2 hours to uninstall anything.Further,even if the drivers ARE present,they have been there for quite some time.Why would the BD AV start reacting to them now?Nevertheless,I have run it(removal tool).

2.I am not willing to uninstall TuneUp Utilities.Like Norton(??),it's been there in my system with BD for the past 3 months.Odd,that it should react now.And if that is the reason,it is a poor one for the AV to react to this.I have never seen any AV I've owned have a conflict with it.

Hello,

Please keep in mind that it do not matter for how long you had the drivers in your PC, it matters that they exist there. Please run the Support tool again and generate a new set of logs to check and see if the Norton traces were removed as I suspect those drivers being the culprit.

It's not odd that you see a reaction now. This may have been triggered by a recent update we released.

Please send me the log file for analysis. What you describe as the behavior for the Norton uninstall tool quoted below do not match the regular uninstall process so I wanna check and see if it had any effect on cleaning up your PC from orphan files still present from a previous installation of a Symantec product.

The Norton Removal tool specified does not do anything. It just sits there in the task manager.

Considering that you are using Windows 7 I would like to remind you to use the option: right click -> "Run as Administrator" whenever you are running a program like the Norton or BitDefender uninstall tool to ensure a complete cleaning.

Has anyone figured this out? My computer started acting up about a week ago and is now almost always painfully slow. It takes several minutes to open a browser and then it takes another few minutes to navigate or the window freezes.

This is becoming maddening!

The solutions didn't work.

After having used the Norton Removal tools etc.,I reinstalled BitDefender AV,Updated it,and again,the problems have come back.

It is still taking too much CPU,upto 50% on occasions,continuously.

The installation was clean and there wasn't any problem there.I had used the BD removal too too,while uninstalling it he first time.

Please check if it's one of your recent updates which is causing the problem.A host of other users have reported this problem too,right after that one update almost a moth ago now.

And Please tell me how to terminate or turn off vsserv.exe.If not possible any other way to neutralize it except uninstall.

Can you isolate the moment when vsserv is using up to 50% of processor ? When you start-up the PC, when you start a game, when you update BitDefender etc.

The vsserv.exe process can not be terminated as being a vital process in assuring the PC Real Time Protection. I can not provide you with a workaround or fix until we don't find the cause of the memory usage. Please run the Support tool again and generate a new log file.

Also, please create an autorun log as explained below:

a) Please go to this page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx and download the autoruns file.

Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;

c) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;

e) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then just attach it to the reply email and send it to us.
