Minimize Scan Window And It Disappears Forever

If I start a scan, it appears in the sys tray like it should. If I click on its icon in the sys tray, I get the scan window which allows me to see in real time which file is being scanned, provides information about any problem files that have been found, and also allows me to pause or stop the scan.

But, if I minimize the scan window, the scanning continues (I can hear my hard drive clacking away) but it does not minimize back into the sys tray (yes, I have the option to minimize to sys tray checked for all scans).

Now, since there is no icon in the sys tray to double-click on, I cannot get a scan window to appear so I can interface with the scanning process. So, I cannot stop or pause scan or deal with malicious files. To stop the scan I must restart my computer, or I must let scan run its course.

I think this is a bug but I am not sure.

Cheers,

What version and solution of BitDefender are you using?

Rightclick on a free space on the systray click on adjust notifications and see if BitDefender Antivirus Scanner is set on show always press ok.

    Best regards

Hi Niels. Thank you for your fast response.

I have BD2008. I just finished the trial and purchased license yesterday.

I have tried your solution so now in sys tray BitDefender Scanner is set to "Always Show" but it still does not minimize to sys tray. It just disappears on minimize. Keep in mind that before I set it to "Always Show" it was already set to "Hide When Inactive" but when I minimize BitDefender Scanner it is always still active when I do so...so it should have minimized to sys tray before I adjusted notifications in sys tray. It especially should minimize to sys tray now but it doesn't. It just disappears and keeps right on scanning only now I cannot interface with the scanner anymore as there is no window or icon.

Also keep in mind that I have checked "minimize scan window to sys tray" on each of the scan types (i.e., deep, full, and quick scans).

So, in summary, I have tried your solution (though I should not have to) but it still isn't working.

I am glad for this forum and thank you for taking time to look into this and all our other issues.

    Cheers,

  • Hello WebDunce,

I also experience this issue. I will report it.

Note that this issue doesn't appear in all cases. It only appears when you double-click the scanning icon to maximize it. But if you right-click it and select Show, it will work fine when you minimize it.

ok. i have tried this and it works (that is very odd though...minimizing is minimizing...how one displayed the window in the first place should be independent of what happens on minimize).

But at least I have a way to interact with the program still.

Well... not really. When you double click the icon and when you click Show are two completely different events. Those events have, as a visual result, maximizing the window, but the rest (what happens inside) could be completely different.

As I assume, when you double click the icon, the icon is disabled permanently by mistake (which doesn't happen when you click Show). It's something minor and I don't think BD Team should have any troubles fixing it.

    Hi Niels,

I don't find this setting on my system: XP Home SP2, 2008 TS.

It is actually called "Customize Notifications"...just right click in the blue space (not on an icon) somewhere in the sys tray to make the menu with this option appear.

  • Hello WebDunce

What works without any problems is not checking the option to minimize automatically then you can maximize the scan window without any problems. But it's almost equal as Cris suggestion.

But you are right it should be fixed. I personally never used that function I always minimize it myself.

    Thanks for correcting me.

    Hello lutz

I translated it myself I don't have an English operating system version.

  • Hello WebDunce and Niels,

now I found it. I have a German version of Windows, and it's a little hidden: task bar properties > "Inaktive Symbole ausblenden" > [Anpassen]. It's not just "Customize Notifications" translated directly.

    Thanks anyway, Lutz
