post-72833-1315093444_thumb.jpgI originally tried to send all this via the customer support email page, but after 3 failed attempts at trying to upload it to BitDefender support I give up! <img class=" />

Now posting it all here in the hope that someone from customer support will see it hear and contact me via my email account

My email address the same email address that I used to register on this forum in case some one from customer support is wondering as I don't want to type it out here on the forum in plain site

Original request to customer support follows....

Hello

Not so long ago I had my subscription for BitDefender Total Security 2009 automatically renewed. Once I found out that I could upgrade to BitDefender Total Security 2012 at no extra cost I chose to do so.

I followed the installation instructions on you website that said to just download and install the BitDefender Total Security 2012 over the old version of BitDefender Total Security 2009, and that it would then automatically find my old installation key from my old BD 2009 anti virus program and use that key to activate the new BD 2012 program. Unfortunately that didn’t go according to plan

The new BitDefender Total Security 2012 program was unable to automatically copy the installation key from BitDefender Total Security 2009 across to the BitDefender Total Security 2012 program.

I then completely uninstalled ALL BitDefender Total Security programs (using the dedicated BitDefender software removal tool form Bit Defender’s web site) then re-downloaded and reinstalled the BitDefender Total Security 2012 program. When asked to validate the “trial version” of BitDefender Total Security 2012, I used the validation key that came with my new subscription to BitDefender Total Security 2009.

BitDefender Total Security 2012 program accepted the key I provided it and all seem to working OK. Now though, as I become more and more familiar with the BitDefender Total Security 2012, I find many modules that should be there, are just not available in my copy of BitDefender Total Security 2012. Examples are… no ability to defragment the hard drive, no option to optimize the registry files, and no ability to sync folders with SafeBox program.

I have had BitDefender Total Security 2012 run the repair utility but I still have all these missing modules.

Finally when I look at “My Products” page on the BitDefender web site, it shows that I am apparently still only running an evaluation version of BitDefender Total Security 2012 (See attached screen shot) (it's now part of this posting!),yet when I look at the license info in the actual BitDefender Total Security 2012 program I’m running, it says that I have a valid full license. (See screen shot) (it's now part of this posting!)

I receive auto updates for the virus definitions file, and can run scans etc., with no problems, but still things are not “quite right” so I’m now wondering if it’s, the BitDefender Total Security 2012 program, which has been incorrectly validated by BitDefender?

Hope you can help me out here (I’ve been a customer of BitDefender for many years now)

Yours Sincerely

Sean

In the attached screen shot I have purposely obscured my validation code. I can provide the original screen shot showing my full validation code, to customer support if need be.

    Hello,

Regarding the missing modules please post a screenshot of the BitDefender Total Security 2012 Security Center where the modules should be listed and aren't.

Second, regarding the key please keep in mind that you are using the same license key (20 digits) you used to register the 2009 version therefore it will not add it again in your 'My Account'.

    Kind regards,

    Hi DanyDan

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, much appreciated. As requested here is a screen shot of "BitDefender Total Security 2012 Security Center where the modules should be listed and aren't"

Basically any function that requires the use of the "optimize" button is inaccessible as I don't seem to be able to locate any said optimize button.

Looking forward to hearing back from you

    Regards

    Sean

PS: The text above the screen shot of BD 2012 has been taken directly from the off line help file that is packaged with the program

  • Please check the screenshot below and compare it with the one you have. Anything different ?

You are looking in the wrong place. Please read the article below.

To start the Registry Cleaner wizard, follow these steps:

    - Open the Bitdefender window.

    - Go to the Tune-Up panel.

    - Click Optimize and then select Registry Cleaner.

The instructions above do NOT refer to the Settings window of BitDefender, but to the main Security Center >>> Tune-Up.
