Hi spriteowner
What version of BitDefender have you installed? Only in BitDefender Antivirus Plus and Internet security is a firewall included. BitDefender can disable a firewall that is installed. That do other antivirusvendors also or ask you to uninstall it. But during installation you can choose for not to install BitDefender firewall. You can try that.

Hi spriteowner
Try this go to start, run,at the run dialog box type services.msc press enter and take a look after services that have Norton or Symantec in the name doubleclick on each service and see that automatic is selected by startup type. If not select it and press on apply and ok. Now take a look if all Norton or Symantec related services are started. If not select them and press on restart service. BitDefender will normally only give a warning if a program is found that isn't compatible.
I recommend that you also perform a deep scan to see if your pc isn't infected. Open BitDefender go to antivirus, scan, deep scan.
If all that fails then I recommend that you use this removal tool to completely remove Norton products:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninsta...oval-Tool.shtml Reboot your pc after you executed the program and then try to install again.
If norton firewall is still unable to work then it could be a conflict. What operating system are you using?
