Online Scanner Problem
I had a virus infection, yesterday, I have already cleaned it up. I copied the infected files to a holding folder for later analysis and also to run against other anti virus programs. The virus was introduced while a competitors product was active, it failed to find it even on a specific scan to the folder I placed the files to. Needless to say that product is toast on my system.
I then ran another competitors online scanner, it reported the files, plus several "non-virus" programs but "reported only" as I had set up the online scan.
Next I tried BitDefender's online scan I set it up as shown here:
Note that "Report only" is selected. I then let the scanner do it's thing and I did mine. On coming back to the computer, I saw the scan was finished. I then noticed the following sequence:
Infected with:
Disinfection failed
Deleted
This is not what I instructed the scanner to do.
As a result several valid files, including a large iso file, have been deleted from my system and those subsequent deletions also wiped out a couple of perfectly good restore points created before my infection. I'm am not going to go though the list of valid files were deleted that is not the point of my post.
To it's credit, it did find those files I had saved from my infection, of course now nothing more can be down as these file were deleted.
I can replace those files no big deal, not worried about those restore points. I am a little peeved that I cannot analyze those virus files but, not a big deal either.
The problem as I see it, is I told the online scanner to "Report only" and it ignored that and deleted files from my computer. This needs to be fixed.
