Is Intrusion Detection System Needed?

only asking as when i first installed bd 2012 total security i noticed that the firewall was set to on, on the home screen but the default setting for ids was off. I have since turned it on and set to normal, but im just wondering is it set to off by default because it takes a lot of resources and is only needed in a hostile environment, or is it best on by default?

im almost certain that it was off by default after i installed it, and not sure if id get better system performance with it off if its not that needed for a general user.

any opinions?

IDS is disabled by default because is some environments can cause False Positives. In this way, we leave this option to be enabled by the user to find the level of protection that needs for his machine.

Hi James. You can probably turn it off if you are browsing a familiar site. But when doing google research, I 'd suggest to turn it on, just to be on the safe side. By the way, can you please post memory and CPU of your PC?
