Am using Bitfdef 10 and having some questions about the firewall

Having 2 PC's on a ADSL modem.

What is the general rule about the protection according to LAN?

Both Pc's must have acces to the internet and to each other.

Untrusted LAN give's trouble since the pc's have to communicate. (ICMP?)

I lowered the firewall to trusted and succeeded with the shared printer en files.

But I like to restrict the allows to just this two pc's and the modem.

How can I set a Range and ICMP filtering since it is most confusing?

Please give a example?

Will the Bitdef Firewall ask for further allow's when a channel is trying to connect.

I mean a kind of automatic rule generated.

Thank you for any simple guidelines directly related to the problem described underneath.

Firewall settings are not an easy task for many of us.

Unless one is a network administrator or a computer fanatic, it all seems extremely complicated.

The BD Security 2008 firewall settings have quite extensive possibilities,

but what I would like to find is some guidelines for the settings of very simple home networks.

What most of us are doing is try this and try that, with cut and try.

So, I wonder if we can have some guidelines from BitDefender or some "WIZARD"

My problem :

PC1 running Win-XP Pro

PC2 running Win-XP Home

NAS Drive in same network

All are conected to ports of a D-Link router

- A "Microsoft Network" was instaled with the wizard, with classic name "HOME".

- Network HOME and all the shared files in the network are shown in Explorer on both PC's

- PC1 has access to shared files on PC2

- PC2 sees shared files but has no "rights" to open them.

PC2 however has access to printers connected on PC1, and to NAS drive as well.

- Those kind of problems are already existing everywhere without a BD-Firewall , which is now adding even more confusion !

- The settings of BitDefender were described in a review (comparing several products on the market) as being NOT very easy to use.

What can be done to give rights to all Windows user accounts of PC2 to access shared FOLDERS on PC1 ?

Of course , when sharing was defined, the permission was given to users on the network to read and write (modify) files.

But that is not sufficient.

Even when BD-Firewall NOT active, this access problem remains.

Some not given credentials to the user-accounts on PC2, might prevent access to PC1 ; and that's another story !!!!
