Bdis2012 Prevents System Restore

Options

Hello,

System Restore, on XP sp3 is prevented by BDIS 2012 (15.0.38.1605). After restart, an "Incomplete Restore" message appears and there is no restoration. I've tried installing and uninstalling BD but nothing.

When I uninstall BD, System restore works fine.

Thank you

    Hi :)

    Welcome back!

In order to be able to properly identify the causes for the reported situation and find a solution we will need to investigate a bit deeper.

Please follow the steps below and send us the result:

a ) Go to this page

    b ) Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;

    c ) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;

    d ) Click on the Disk icon right under File and chose any location folder on your computer;

e ) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then send me a PM with it.

If the file is too big to attach it, upload it on

    Hi JAGUARS,

It was the first I did even with BDIS services disabled but nothing. When I uninstall BDIS System Restore works fine.

    Thanks for reply :)

    Hello :)

    Welcome back!

Are you telling me that System Restore doesn't work in Safe Mode?

Our product doesn't load any service or driver in that mode.

    Take care.

    Hi Christian,

That's right. Even in Safe mode, System Restore cannot work. After restart you can see bellow (image) what happens.

When I uninstall BDIS, System Restore works fine.

    ...and one more thing:

When BDIS is UNINSTALLED, System Restore takes about 1 or more minutes (depends on the requested date) to restart Windows.

When BDIS is INSTALLED, System Restore takes less than 5 seconds (for any requested date) to restart Windows.

This behavior is the same in either normal and safe mode.

Could you please try Method 3 from this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302796?

"Method 3: Make sure that you have sufficient disk space on all the drives where System Restore is enabled" :D:D:D Ok. Enough with the laughs...

WHEN BDIS IS UNINSTALLED EVERYTHING'S OK.

P S : There is plenty of space on my disk (used 11GB, free 20GB, with BDIS installed).

    Hello :)

    Welcome back!

Please install this version and let me know if everything is OK.

After the installation press Update now, it will be updated to .39 build(in Events, under Update you will see the Reboot now prompt). Reboot the PC and then use System Restore.

    Hi Christian,

I've followed your instructions and unfortunately, System Restore cannot work.

It's the 4th time I did all this.

I suspect that with Antivirus installed, Windows System Restore don't work.

    But let's try something

    1) Boot your PC in Safe Mode

    2) Go to RUN and type service.msc

    3) Locate all the Bitdefender Services and do the following for all of them

    General

    Start up Type: Disabled

    Service Status: Stop

    LogOn

    Hardware Profile Service: Disabled

    1) Stop and Restart the “System Restore Service”

    2) Then do System Restore from Safe Mode

    Hello ONT

Finally, I've installed again Xp Pro sp3 and now "System Restore" works but only in "Safe Mode" without any further modification.

    Thank you very very much!

    Hi Christian,

Microsoft article refers to infected items so, how can be explained that on a fresh, clean Win XP installation, with only BDIS and some clean apps (Firefox, Flash player, Adobe Reader) installed, "System Restore" works only in "Safe Mode"? Is it normal?

    Hello :)

Some changes will be made in the near future in the product, probably directly in Bitdefender 2013 and this should be solved.

Thank you very much for your feedback!
