Cannot Boot And Freeze On Install Windows Xp Sp3

Options

I am new to Bitdefender, and needed a new antivirus so I decided to give this one a try. The installation has been ######, and even after spending about 4 - 6 hours I still have no working product.

At first, I was notified that I still had Kapersky 2010 installed on my computer. I followed instructions to remove it completely, even though I had previously uninstalled quite some time ago. Finally using a removal tool, it seemed to be gone completely. After going through the install process the first time, it only took about 20 minutes and seemed to be working correctly. A full scan took about three hours (which seemed a long time), and then I proceeded to check for updates. The update started, listed as complete with a reboot required.

After my reboot, I could barely get my computer to start. It would hang at login, then finally make it to my desktop after 15 minutes or more. A couple times it froze completely and I had to hard power down. My computer as NEVER had problems with speed; it is over 5 years old and has never taken more than a minute or two to boot and load all my applications. I also got a blue screen on one occasion. After the last reboot, I could no longer successfully boot at all. Windows would freeze indefinitely and I would have to power down. I eventually went into safe mode and removed Bitdefender. After that, my computer booted without a problem.

I was definitely ready to never use this program again, but I checked around and was informed that the cause my have been a previous antivirus installation. I discovered Kapersky still had remnants of the program left, so I downloaded another updated removal tool, which finally removed it completely. I then downloaded the Bitdefender removal tool, used that and then rebooted.

I tried the installation again this morning, and after taking much longer than before, it froze at "starting services." Eventually Windows in its entirety froze, and even after almost an hour the installation never finished. So far, this antivirus has given more PC more problems than it has ever had in its lifetime.

Comments

  • Further information, I got home from work 10 hours later to find the installation still frozen. I restarted and BitDefender loaded, but was missing much of its features. I took a screenshot and attached. The product is defective. I bought this from a store that will not let me return opened software. I want my money back. The package says "30 day money-back guarantee." I would like to take your company up on that. Also, the back of the package says Gold award Top Ten Reviews, AVTest #1 Against Malware Infections, and recommended by PCUtilities... this is great, but with a closer look, all those awards are for 2011. I did not purchase Antivirus Plus 2011, I purchased Antivirus Plus 2012. That is deceptive advertising.
