Would You Install Mbam Pro If You Had Bitdefendet Internet Security?

Options

I know I can probably install MBAM Pro (I own a lifetime license) and setup exclusions so that it doesn't conflict with BIS 2012, but would it really help and give me an extra layer of protection or is BIS 2012 all I need in terms of protection?

    Hi Barryracer, :)

Running two real time security solutions defiantly is not recommended, even the free versions leave some background processes running, and can cause conflicts. see thread: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...p;=Malwarebytes

I know it may be a little disappointing to have a lifetime license, but you will need to forgo that with Bitdefender. If you want a second opinion, I would consider one of the "non install" Online Scanners an option for a second opinion, just making sure to disable Bitdefenders On Access Scanning during the scan.

    Hope this helps :)

    Hi berryracer! :)

Why? you only have one computer?

You could install your life-time license MBAM on one computer and BD on the other...

    +1 for columbo,

    For each computer:

only one firewall, one antivirus, one antispyware.

And keep in mind the best antimalware is free, between the chair and the keyboard... ;)

    Best regards,

    L.

Thanks for the kudos, Lionet :)

Good points about using the license on another PC, and of the "pilot" between the keyboard and chair <img class=" /> +1 for you too. :)

Do not listen to columbo.

Okay firstly, those background processes are not a problem and conflicts shouldn't occur! <img class=" /> These will only show up during on-demand scans, but that is for the on-demand (second opinion) scanners. MBAM PRO runs in the background, yes, but it is an antimalware not an antivirus. As far as I know, there is no conflicts between these two products.

Antimalwares include MBAM, EAM (Emsisoft Anti-Malware), SAS (SUPER Anti-Spware), HMP (Hitman Pro - $$), etc. The free versions of these products are on-demand, while the paid product includes realtime functions. Because they are on-demand, you can have as many as you want on your PC, but you cannot do this if they are ran in realtime. HMP is an on-demand scanner that includes 4-5 engines from various AV companies (Prevx/Webroot, Dr.Web, EAM, GData [Avast + BD]).

Go along ahead and install MBAM Pro to go along with BD. Exclude processes and everything, and be sure to disable scheduled scanning in MBAM. The web protection in the product is an IP blocker, which can yield FPs so never 'rely' on it 100%.

  • ohh ok, thanks then, ill set up the exclusions

WinDefend may have had some good thoughts...but I will only suggest what is sanctioned by this forums Tech. Support mod. and his desire for Bitdefender to run as smoothly and effectively as it was designed to do. Until I see any change as far as that's concerned (i.e. running a free version along side B.D.), I will only relay what is prescribed by Christian, and work with him, and not against him. Now, what you do on your own is up to you.

Just my 2 cents worth :)

I agree with columbo and Lionet

There are the points which can be taken into account for selecting any security suite

    1) Detection Rates.

    2) Protection Technologies e.g Signature Based, Generic and Pattern-based, Heuristics Detection, Behavioral Scanning, Intrusion Detection etc.

    3) Protection Features e.g Firewall, AntiSpam, AntiBanner, Anti Phishing, Parental Control, AntiRootkit, Privacy Control, Sandbox Feature, Rescue Mode/CD, Command Line Scan, ****** Execution for removing some malwares etc.

    4) Ability to remove infection traces completely.

    5) False Positives Rate.

    6) Additional Features offered e.g Tuneup, Backup/Restore, Vulnerability, Encryption, Game/Silent/Laptop Mode, etc.

    7) Self Protection feature and ability to install, if the system is already infected badly.

    8) Technical Support.

    9) Resource Utilization (Not resource hogging).

    10) Small Installation Footprints i.e occupies less space after installation.

    11) Able to restore/undo any changes/damages made by the virus/malware in the system.

There can be more things added, but by considering above said, you can eliminate the alternatives, but however no Antivirus solution is perfect giving you 100% protection. Also it is better that the detections should be with the optimum protection settings of the products to be compared.

And even if you disabled services or add them to exclusions, even then some drivers still run in background.
