edited May 2012 in Installation

I bought BIS 2011 last year, i was thinking to perform upgrade tp 2012 version today, so, i follow the steps on this page,

unfortunately, it didn't work..

http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...ounce&id=42

I used the BD unistall tool from this page:

http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

After restart my pc, i download BIS 2012 installation from here:

http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_isecurity.exe

I ran the installation, a window popup that incompatible solution detected, with a green button of "Continue Bitdefender installation and remove existing solution" ....

Then.., a Windows installer came out and perform on one of my chatting program QQ2009, "are you sure you want to uninstall this product?" .... I wonder what BIS have to with my chatting program, because it doesn't have virus at all!!

Anyway, to install BIS 2012.., i just followed the instruction given, after the program uninstall, it closes and thats it!!

I ran again the BIS 2012 web kit, it came out the same window with green button but i click it, but this time it came our error instead of performing installation...

.. it says, "action is only valid for products that are currently installed"...., clicked ok and thats it! ... Also, theres is no BIS 2011 in program files or at remove program..., i don't know why such problem and what should i do...

I have been a regular Bitdefender patronage for many years, and never have this sort of problem before, please help!

System info:

OS: windows XP Pro SP3

Ram: 2GB

CPU: intel 2Duo 2.53GHz

I finally installed Bitdefender Internet Security 2012, i think.. XD

This is what happened, after seeing no replied from this forum...

I had two times of chat session with support and issued one ticket, by submitted the BD support tool and screen shot..

While, i am still waiting for any further assistance.., i can't hold on, i hope the issue will be resolved asap, so.., instead of just sitting there and waiting, i can't resist to try to solves it on my own...

I starting by removing some unwanted programs from my pc, ran again the installation file from:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_isecurity.exe

    .., it still didn't work... D:

..I then used another BDIS 2012 , the direct FULL setup file thats about 232MB , which given by one of the support from this link:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...is_2012_32b.exe

..the result is still the same.. D:

it keep saying in the window, "Incompatible solution detected", "continue with Bitdefender installation and remove existing solution"..., eventhough i had checked and removed 2011 version many times, and i am only using ONLY ONE security suit..., i even

end-up uninstalled Hijackthis, because......., it's by Trend micro..., it has its own antivirus out there, just in case the BDIS 2012 installation program are not happy with it...

..still.., it didn't work either..., also, NEITHER disk cleaner or registry cleanup works!! D:

...I almost give up..., but i didn't, coz, i was <img class=" /> and i insist to solving it.., arghh!!

... i rebooted again in safemode, tried to installed from the FULL setup file, it didn't work, same error.., i was wondering.., what sort of other programs can run in safe mode?? Becaese it still saying, "incompatible solution detected"???!! <_<

...Then., i begin to think, it must be a great false positive..., and try to find a way to actually by pass that warning!! :P

...So.., i ran again the Full 32 bit BDIS installation setup file, ..knowing that that installation program will generates a temp file.., i left the "incompatible solution detected" window opened without any further intact, i went to the the temp folder which is located at:

    x:\Documents and Settings\myname\Local Settings\Temp

I used Process explorer to find out which folder it was created.., and i found a folder call RarSFX0, inside, has all of the BDIS setup files that it requires to install..., i found the setup file, a grey box thingy that name, "Bitdefender Installation" or something.., i clicked on it.., Voila!! A pop-up of license agreement appear!! :D

..I click agree, and it requires me to register and enter license key, no problem on that step..., next.., i comes to a bar, with step like virus scanning, downloading application, install files.., and start service...

The virus scan was pretty fast, as the blue colour bar progressing, and with status remarked "finish"...

Next, it's the step of downloading file, it took a while...., but i finish too.. XD

Then.., it starts the "install files" process..., which worries me most, because it stuck at 9% for such a long time!! :o

.........but, it still managed to get into 99% and finish the install files process, PHEW!! XD

...Atlast, it was able to start the service...

..worry that i might not installed the BDIS 2012 correctly on my 32bit XP, i restart the pc again.., and the BDIS 2012 agent follow the startup, and it's working like a CHARM!! :)

...so.., i succeeded resolved this on my own, and i still think that "incompatible solution detected" warning was a false positive, becaue it wanted me to uninstall my chat program QQ2009 when i used the uninstall tool for 1st time yesterday  ......, which doesn't really make sense..., so.. XD

...Still, thanks for the pleasant chat and ticket support... :)

Only one thing i don't really like is BDIS 2012 skin's, is black, i am a lady and i like other colours better...

    Hello :)

    Welcome to the forums!

Black is a pretty neutral color, and also tells you that the antivirus installed is serious.

I don't really think a red one or a pink theme will inspire trust.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Take care.
