Bd Total Securty 2012 & Xp Slow

i know there are some topics out there about this and i have read some of the, but for the most part i dont know what most of them really have to say. I dont know much about computers so if someone could help i would appriciate it. I have windows xp with sp3 and this think is slower than my 83 year old grandmother. What can i do? i would like to keep bd. Is thers an upgrade that i can do or something.
