32bit To 64 Bit
Hello everyone, I have a question. Right now I have over 2 months left before I have to renew (which I will, very happy with BitDefender) on my current system which uses Windows Media Center Edition 32bit. In 2 days I will be building a new system upgrading some major components including a new motherboard which supports up to 16 gig's of memory. I will be switching over to Windows XP Professional 64bit to take advantage of memory upgrades (Windows 32bit only supports 4gigs max). So my question is will I have to buy a whole new key for BitDefender for my new system or will I be able to just download the 64bit version using my existing key, which I will renew in 2 months anyway. I was thinking of submitting a support ticket, or just trying a trial version first but I figured to post to see if anyone has had any experience with upgrades. Thanks!

I have no experience with this but to me it sounds logical that you need a new key

Hello Travis,
As long as you migrate your hole system in anew one and BitDefender doesn't remain installed and registered on the old computer, you don't need a new license.
So:
- on the old HDD (if you plan to change the HDD), use the BD Uninstall Tool to completely remove BitDefender
- On the new HDD you can install BD and use the same license for the remaining period (you can use the online MyBitDefender account to transfer the license, or you can simply use it when you install BD).
If you need some other info about this, please contact LiveAssistance, Customer Care section. They are the ones that can answer the questions related to registration.

I plan on recycling all three of my sata drives (raid) for my new system so they will be formatted. My old pc will be rebuilt using an old IDE hard drive but I plan on only installing Ubuntu linux. I may reinstall Windows Media center (dual boot) and in this case I will purchase a new license for BitDefender, maybe update my account for 2 pc's? I'll cross that road when I get to it, thanks for the speedy reply. I appreciate it.

I built my new computer, installed bitdefender 64bit edition and registered it with my current key. Everything went smooth, thanks for the help Chris.

Where is the option to download x64 Vista version? When i decided to try Vista Ultimate x64, i backed and updated all the software
that i own. The website says it's compatible, but when i go to re-download, the option to download the x64 version isn't available. I did try installing the backed up version Total Security 2008 from my x32 OS and it says "Not Compatible"0 -
