Over-the-counter Purchase Registration

Today I bought a copy of 'Internet Security' from my local STAPLES dealer. I succeeded in installing it , apparently in good order on my WinXP sp3 desktop. The envelope containing the install disc says in bold type: DO NOT LOSE THIS REGISTRATION KEY. There follows the printed 7-digit key. I find nowhere on this site to insert it. In the meantime, my install tells me my "on-access scanning is disabled", which makes your product useless. Before I return the purchase, can you help?

Thank you for your prompt and courteous reply.

I make it a rule never to install software until it has been on the market and used by others for some time. I bought Internet Security 2012 because it was a proven solution; because it gave me 2 years of upgrades; and because I was able to install it in 3 devices. I would like to enjoy what I bought, including the time span and installations promised on your packaging. I do not want Bitdefender 2013, at least not yet. Would you arrange for me to get what I paid for, please?
