Laptop Locks Up While On Wireless

Hi,

I have Thinkpad T61 running Vista Ultimate and Bitdefender Internet Security 2008. I am experiencing a problem where my laptop will completely lock up and I am forced to hit the power button to shut down and then I have to restart. One of my co-workers has suggested that I uninstall BitDefender to see if it's the problem.

Has anyone experienced a problem like this and if so how did you solve it?

Thanks,

Steve

  • Hello Steve,

I have a Dell Inspiron and I'm running BD TotalSecurity 2008. I have absolutely no problems while on Wi-Fi (and I've used it on Wi-Fi for 4 weeks continuously). The difference is that I run WinXP.

So if there's a problem, it has to be related to an incompatibility (probably with some other software, or with the Wi-Fi card drivers). Or it might just not be in any way related to BitDefender. Did you try your co-worker's advice, to see if you still have the problem?

  • Dear Steve,

To see which process cause that issue you can try this press these 3 buttons all together: ctrl+alt+del(ete)

choose taskmanager. Click on the processes tab click 2x the CPU tab now all the processes are be sort on CPU usage when the problem occurs again please write down the process and please give me the name of it in your next post. You can also end the process that is using lots of cpu select it and press on end process. Take also a look in the windows event viewer. To go there type eventvwr into the windows vista search field press enter. You have to see if there are any errors reported or warnings if so expand it. Post the possible occured errormessages that took place at the moment your laptop freezed.

    Best regards

  • I'll try but generally, when this happens, I'm lucky if I can even get task manager up and then that's usually hosed very quickly. I'll try to scan the event log but I haven't seen anything hopeful yet.

  • I have to admit I have been stubborn and have not tried uninstalling, but I guess that's the next step as I nothing else to try.
