Bd 2008 & Acer Enet Management

I have a new Acer laptop that has a tool called Enet Management that controls the LAN/WLAN connections if I so wish and advises of there status.

Before I installed BD 2008 Internet Security this tool could detect Wireless Connections and advise on signal strength etc and advises when I am connected to the Router/Internet.

After installing BD 2008 Enet Management can no longer identify WLAN connections yet it still can detect LAN connections. So when I am now connected to the Internet via wireless connection Enet Management tells me the Internet is disconnected.

I have asked Bitdefender to advise on Wireless connections thinking this might be the issue but it is not. I can only assume it has something to do with the network drivers that Bitdefender has installed.

While only a minor annoyance I wonder if there is anyway to resolve this issue.

I'm having the exact same problem but I haven't been able to solve it. If you have found a solution or workaround I'd be more than interested in hearing from you.

I have a Dell Inspiron and BitDefender Total Security. I have no problem with the Wi-Fi connections (the networks are detected correctly and there's no problem in connecting to them). I also use a special tool for this (it's not Windows who manages my connections).

What I want to say is that there might be a problem either with the specific Acer Enet Management or maybe there's some problem with the BD Firewall Drivers when they are installed for your Wi-Fi cards.

Do you both have the same Wi-Fi network adapters? (please post this information)

Also, what OS do you have installed?

@RobertW: you say that you can connect to the Wi-Fi networks. How can you do this (since Enet doesn't work)?

To see if there's a problem with the BD Firewall Drivers, try to disable them:

- open the Wi-Fi connection properties

- In the General Tab you should see a list of items that are used by the connection. Between them there should be BitDefender NDIS Filter Driver

- un-check the checkbox in front of the BitDefender driver, press OK and reboot your computer. Note that this will disable the firewall

- see if the problem appears again

After you make this test, please undo the above steps. Keeping the Firewall disabled represents a high security risk.

Please post the result of the test.

Thanks for the suggestion, will give this a try tomorrow and let you know.

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 Bit, the WLAN Card is an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN.

The tool is more a reporting tool and manages different profiles allowing easy switching between different profiles such as IP Address ranges for different sites etc, that doesn;t bother me as it is a personal use laptop I would just like to figure out why it is not working correctly after BD Install.

I can still configure the connection through Vista's Network Sharing Centre, the ENet system will report zero available WLAN networkd to connect too but if you click on this link it will bring up Vista's list of Wireless Networks, it is a tad strange.

I'll let you know how I go with your suggestion.

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and according to Device Manager my Wi-Fi network adapter is called 'Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter'

I tried to disable BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter driver and rebooted my laptop. After that Acer eNet Management (AEM) works fine but in order to prevent a potential security risk, I re-enabled the NDIS Filter Driver and rebooted. After the reboot, AEM is unable to see available WLAN's.

However, just like Mr. Robert W. says AEM is

a reporting tool and manages different profiles allowing easy switching between different profiles such as IP Address ranges for different sites etc

and it is not imperative to use this software to get connected.

After AEM was knocked out most likely by the NDIS Filter Driver, I use Vista to connect to a wireless network and it works perfectly.

Because you have different Wi-Fi adapters, my guess is that we can say that this is not the problem.

The problem might be an incompatibility with Enet Management, or with Windows Vista (but I guess it's with Enet, since the connections work fine from Vista itself).

Run the tools from that article and send me, in a PM, the logs generated by them. (if you cannot attach them, put them in a ZIP archive). I'll try to contact TechSupport about this issue.

However, where I'm staying now I have an extremely lousy internet connection, and it just might not be stable enough for a chat session with TechSupport. So if you don't receive my answer in 2 days (after you send me the generated logs), please try to contact LiveAssistance yourselves.

Hi Cris,

I have done as you suggested and disabled the BD NDIS driver for my wireless adapter and upon a reboot ENet Management can once again see available WLAN's.

I have spoken to Tech Support and have a case number but not had a chance to report back to them as yet.

Interestingly enough when I reenabled the NDIS Driver without a reboot AEM was still reporting ok but upon a reboot it does not allow you to search for available WLAN's from it directly.

I will do as you ask and send you these log files when I get back to my laptop as I'm not at home at present where my laptop is!

Hopefully I will be home tonight and able to send these log files to you. I guess you want these log files run with the NDIS Driver enabled.
