[escalated] How To Block A Complete Folder From Internet?

Greetings.

Very new to BitDefender, so this might me just me being a newbie.

I came from KIS 2013, which have some performance issues when using SSD's.

I then was told to try BitDefender, and after trying a few days, I got licence for Total security. This has given me 2 problems, one with SafeBox (not so importend) and one with the firewall (more importend).

In KIS 2013 I could create a rule for a complete folder (with all its subfolders), and as I am trying different programming and solutions, I want this folder to sat OFFLINE at ALL TIME, that mean both ways on the net. I have found "Application-rule"-setting in Bitdefenders firewall, but only for .exe-files?? Now what if a subroutine in a .dll or a .com or a .bat try to connect to the Net?

I want to have this folder sandboxed, but with a possibility to open up for one .exe-file, when testing without the rest of the folder has access to the Internet or LAN.

So how do I lock a folder (or a complete HDD) behind the firewall?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

The answer is as simple as this : You cannot.

Real configuring and control (this poor) Firewall is the weak point of BD.

The only you can do is to turn "Paranoid mode" ON (on Settings/Firewall) thus, if an app tries to connect to internet you'll be prompted for permission (although in some cases, even this, doesn't work, creating "Allow" rules w/o prompt).

Auch ... :wacko: That is not good at all. Bitdefender may be the best at virus dection, but as a firewall Kaspersky is WAY better. After your answer I read the entire manual for Bitdefender, and I wish I did that BEFORE placing my money at that company. I was pretty sure, that Bitdefender, being a global known program, would have some of the best modules in every way. Well, I have payed for it, and I will (maybe) use it for a year, and then see if Kaspersky has a better way to handle SSD's.

But be sure I will use the testtime fully from now on on other companys Internet Secure programs.

Bitdefender only has top-ranked detection rates but unfortunately lacks a lot in some fundamental and very useful features. We are suggesting to implement those, lets see if the developers can be convinced for them.

In my experience, best app is the one that user knows better regardless of reviews, awards etc.

Thus, if you keep BD and learn its pros/cons, having only a few minor issues (nothing is perfect) which you can handle, perhaps finally, you'll like it and stay here (just complaining <img class= " /> like us), waiting for the next version (free upgrade BD policy) to see improvements :rolleyes: and decide what is better for you.

There are many requests about Firewall (and not only) control and we hope they will not ignore us (as also ONT mentions), although the "silent" way of this product doesn't give me much hope.

Hmm, for now I'm using BitDefender, and it seems OK in all but the firewall.

Is it possible to use a freeware firewall, and then disable the poor one in BitDefender? Maybe Outpost firewall or Comodo firewall?

This will only be a second solution, I know, as this programs are not tied together as the nuildin firewall at BitDefender.

Hi,

It's NOT recommended. Even if BD's Firewall is disabled, some drivers are still running causing conflicts and perhaps you're not going to...live in peace.

If you can teach me an easy way to block a complete folder (with all files and subfolders in it), I will be very happy

As for now, I'll have to block every single item for itself, and the list of that is pretty long, so if I later want to let just ONE program through for test, it is a long list to manage.

i would like to know the same thing. Trying out the Trail version but Firewall part is important for me as well and would like to get some more information before i buy the product.

Our firewall protects the entire HDD, but there isn't a way to lock a specific folder behind the Bitdefender firewall. Since your suggestion is a good idea, I will submit this feature request to our development team.

I am just looking for solution to blocking only applications or folders from internet acess and it seems like that, Bitdefender can't ofer me nothing like that. So how does it looks like with adding this option?

Btw I have Bitdefender Total Security 2013 and mby this function is already there and I just didnt find it – hopefully. And then mby, I would be able to get advice here, about where to find it
