A Few Questions

Here it is (using BitDefender IS 2008):

1. How do I know when the program is updating? Is there a change in the tray icon?

2. Every now and again the tray icon changes with a exclamation mark plastered on top of the normal icon. It also hogs a lot of system resource and then after a few minutes it just goes back to normal. This sometime occcurs when I go to certain web pages. My question is, is this a issue, a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

  • Dear frazbox,

    1) If there is a product upgrade you will see a screen where BitDefender asks to reboot your pc. If you didn't unchecked that option. You can always see which files are updated and also when it took place. Open BitDefender press on history click now on the antivirus section there you will find the update information and also if succeed or failed.

2)Please clarify are you speaking about the BitDefender Security Center or are you speaking about the BitDefender scan graph? If it's the scan graph it indeed sometimes happens that you see a cross this is a bug. But you need to check in BitDefender to see if all options are enabled.

  • Here is what i've been noticing, when the tray icon changes to the one with the exclamation mark, my firewall seems to disable then enable. This usually happens when the program is running the update. Does the program have a bug, because I can't keep running this knowing that my firewall is freaking out.

Also, i'm running utorrent, the virus scan seems to be interfering with my upload. Utorrent says in the logs tab that another program is has the file open. Is there a way to stop BD from doing this? When I checked BD I could see that its scanning one of the files that i happen to be uploading.

  • Dear frazbox,

That is normal behaviour when there is an update for the firewall this is also the same for other modules. Otherwise certain file can't be updated because they are in use.Sometimes you just see the red exclamation mark while all protection is active.

What you can try is excluding your utorrent upload folder. Right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock click on open advanced settings,go to the exceptions tab select the option choose a path not to be scanned now follow the steps.
