I've used Driver Verifier to obtain more information.

It seems bdfwfpf.sys is the culprit. BSOD below and VERIFIER_ENABLED minidump attached.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix (even beta) somewhere? If not, I'll have to uninstall BitDefender (unfortunately).

Just a couple of things I'd like to add:

- When I disable BitDefender's firewall I have no BSOD. This confirms that bdfwfpf.sys is faulty.

- This bug might be related to an interaction between bdfwfpf.sys and a VPN client : TheGreenBow . I have specific parameters for this connection (BitDefender's 'manage adapters') : trusted, stealth off, generic no.

Please let me know if you want more information. I'm keen to have this resolved asap.

Hello Olivier,

Please install the latest driver available for your network adapter and check if the BSOD persists.

If it does, bring up the Bitdefender interface > click on Settings > Firewall panel > General rules > Incoming ICMPv6 > select Allow > restart Windows.

I've changed the settings as you suggested. No BSOD for now.

Download a recovery CD that has memtest86 and test your ram. I going to guess you have a bad DRAM module.

My RAM is fine. It passed memtest86. I'm wondering what in the minidump made you think of such a hardware problem?

Also, these BSOD are occurring since I moved from AVG (freeware) to BD (paid version). I had no BSOD before installing BD.

Last week BSODs might have been related to an interaction between BD and a VPN client (see previous thread on this forum). I applied Georgia's workaround (BD firewall parameters), and it worked.

Now, these BSOD are occurring with no running VPN client. They seem to be triggered by VLC , when I open a video stream using the RTSP protocol.

I want to say that the last few days I have been streaming NHL hockey using VLC and sometimes during it I get a BSOD. It ONLY happens when VLC is open. It doesn't always happen, but when it does it's when vlc is open. The minidump files points to vsserv.exe which is associated with bit defender. I'm currently on a trial version of this program and I've had no BSOD's until I started using it. My BSOD is the exact same message as this thread op's minidump. OlivierDelrieu states that he was using VLC when his bsod occurred too. I've added it to the firewall list, but I don't know if that will make a difference or not. I await a solution because I really dislike restarts.

After sending a memory dump to the Bitdefender support team they informed me there was a conflict with Asus AI Suite. I uninstalled this and now it runs with out any problems. I would like to have this suite running though but I have not had any more time to do additional testing. Maybe you have the same issue. If not contact their support and send them a complete memory dump, maybe they can tell you what is wrong.

My computer crashes about once a week with BSOD although I am not using Safepay, and I have followed each advice given in this thread.

I had used Kaspersky, ESET, and Norton before and have never experienced something like this.

How is it possible that, according to this forum, this issue keeps creating frustrated users for months and months?

Hello all,

Just a short note to let you all know that the BSOD reported in this topic indicates a Windows issue, not a Bitdefender one. Windows 7 and Windows Vista stop responding when you run an application that uses Windows Filtering Platform API.

Please follow the steps form the article to fix it even if the BSOD is not necessarily triggered by Safepay as the title indicates:

After applying the Microsoft fix, netio.sys version should increase to 6.1.7600.21211 or 6.1.7601.21991
