How To Even Start Downloading Bit Defender

Am writing on behalf of a friend who has purchased the Bit Defender family pack (+firewall?) for Windows 8 online.

A small file has been download to his system which he needs to click on in order to download the main application file.

Whenever this is clicked on, it keeps coming up saying "what program do you want to open this".

He nor l haven't a clue!

Any ideas?
