I have tried 4 times to install bitdefender free on my wife's laptop which runs windows 7 64 bit home premium, it is an HP laptop and came with win 7 installed sp1... each time i install it the B icon is by my clock but next time i reboot the icon is gone and there is no more user interface. i can see bitdefender in the context menus but even windows says it is not running after i reboot.... I tried installing on my old laptop which is vista 32 bit and bitdefender works just fine on there, only on my wife's 64 bit do i have a problem, any suggestions would be appreciated, i had to go with Comodo for now, and i am not happy about that, i would rather be running bitdefender free....
Windows 7 is notorious for messing up the icons that show or don't show in the notification area of the Windows Task Bar. Right click the Task Bar--->left click Properties----->left click Customize. Make sure next to to Bitdender it says "Show icon and notifications". If not change it to that. Save and exit. It still may not show up until you reboot. Hoepfully this will solve your problem.
I was already setting it to that after every install, I prefer to see my antivirus program not have it hidden. that is not the problem here, cause when i check that setting, that is when windows tells me the program is not active at this time, but will use that setting when it becomes active again.... There is a major bug in the program under 64 bit windows 7...
I am using BD AV Free on a W7-SP1 x64 computer along with Malwarebytes Pro. I have been doing so for at least several months and as far as I can tell they work great together. So it seems only logical that BD AV Free works fine on W7-SP1 x64 without Malwarebytes Pro.
The settings I mentioned do not tell you if the program is active or not. If you are referring to the Windows Action Center which is something entirely different W7 also has a historical problem with AV and Spyware programs with regard to not reporting their status correctly. Open Windows Task manager and see if gziface.exe shows any CPU or memory activity. Open Wiindows Task Manager go to Processes and then go to Options at the top left click on Options and then left click on Always on top. Run some programs and see if gziface.exe is showing any activity.
I have used W7 for over four years. I can tell you this. It is the final release of Vista which was W7 beta (my name for Vista not how Microsoft refers to it). It is a pretty decent OS but its notifications and other things tend to get messed up pretty easily even with a new computer.
While the problem/s you mentioned are unforunate I can tell you I have had no such problems or any problems that I have noticed using BD AV Free on my W7-SP1 x64 computer.
Good luck

Thank you for the replies in here, i saw above a removal tool and ran that then reinstalled bd free and it now works after reboot however it takes forever to load in the taskbar it eventually get there... i also run mbam pro and i have it set to delay start, so it starts last during bootup, and bitdefender shows in the taskbar after mbam has loaded, maybe 3 minutes after bootup.... but it does now start so i am fine with waiting....
