Bitdefender Free Won't Activate

I downloaded Bitdefender Free at the urging of the folks at Gizmo's because I've had issues with MSE and the Firefox WGA plugin...

I downloaded, followed the instructions and could never get it to activate - the Virus Shield was off, I could never get it on.

It kept telling me to restart my system, and I must have done that 10 times - no matter, I could never get it to activate.

What did I do wrong?

I've never had any AV or related software simply not install, much less work.

I really need some guidance before I give up for good.

I believe the Bitdefender free is only on demand which would mean there is no virus shield. You can only scan your computer not protect it from viruses that you download on to your computer in real time. To remove viruses you always have to scan your computer.

If you want an antivirus that is free and protects you in realtime I would recommend Antivir.

Hello,

I guess there's some kind of incompatibility between BD AVFree and other app installed on your system.

For further investigations we need a file from your computer, named "gzserv.log", which is located in product's installation folder (default: C:\program files\bitdefender\antivirus free edition\)

You can upload it via www.sendspace.com or www.mediafire.com and after that pm me with the link

I think you are talking about the old Bitdefender AVFree, the new one (www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html) provides real-time protection, on-demand scanning, and other features. A short review is posted here: http://dottech.org/105687/windows-review-b...s-free-edition/

If things are this confusing with the installation of a piece of software and with a vendor, I move on.

I also have same problem. I installed free edition of Bitdefender about two months ago. I was able to run at installation. But now I can not activate it. My account show a link to request activation, but I have not received any instruction (it seems that activation request did not go out). Could anyone advise please?

Same problem here.. it installed but the virus shield will not turn on. No point in using this pos if the shield will not turn on. Running XP sp3 on VAIO. And I use Firefox, for a very good reason. <img class= " />

Hi everyone

Just installed BD free on my wife's Vista computer & keep getting: "the connection to the server has failed. The product could not be activated. Check the connection and try again."

Any ideas?

Hi Sharon,

The new version of Bitdefender Free can only be installed on Windows 7 and newer. You might have installed the older version, which has reached EOL.

I have installed it on Windows 7 Home Premium and the "Protection shield" will not activate.

I have written to support about this and have received no helpful reply.

Anys ideas would be welcome otherwise I will need to switch to another antivirus.

Further information for the above post:

I am signed in to a BitDefender account and notifications are on - so there would appear to be no reason why the "Protection Shield" should not activate.

Any helpful suggestions welcome.
