Question Re: Bitdefender Total Security 2008

Hello to all- first visit to the forum, and I am hoping some of the experts here can answer my question.

Just installed trial version of BTS 2008 and so far, all seems to be working fine, except there are no status icons or tune up tools displayed in the BitDefender security window. I'm sure that I am missing something obvious, but can't find a way to display them. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions/info. Thanks!

Is there any solution to this problem? I have exactly the same issue - installed a trial version and Status Screen is empty - I can not see the results of scans either (only option to check what happened during a scan is to look into the log file).

See if this works go to start,run,now type this

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\buiguictl.dll" press enter. You have to change C by the drive letter or partition letter where you have installed BitDefender on.

Try this if the previous failed remove .net framework from your computer by using this tool. Double click on cleanup_tool(.exe) Download the latest .net framework version here. But first reboot your computer before installing the newest version.

about .NET: I found several versions of .NET Framework installed on my computer. Don't know why, maybe caused by other software installations. Is this useful? Can I uninstall the older versions? Should I uninstall all of them with the tool mentioned above, and then reinstall only the latest? Is ist possible that some software are fixed to a certain version of .net, and won't run with the latest version?

Thanks for the answer - strange thing is I do not have this 'buiguictl.dll' anywhere on my hard drive! Is there a way around it - like to download this file?

Dear lutz,

You can uninstall an older version of .net framework. Almost every software will still function but there is always a chance that some software doesn't work but that chance is almost none. You can safely remove version 1.1 with the service pack's. It's better to use this tool to avoid problems.

Sorry I know see that that I forgot one letter infact it's bdguictl.dll. So it's absolutely normall that you didn't find buigctl.dll into the BitDefender installation directory.

So you have to type this regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdguictl.dll"
