Fix For Surf Advisor Google Works Only If Search Is Not Https Based

Options

Hi there,

I to noticed no search adviser ticks on searches from Google not appearing when searching from https://www.google.com

When I switched to non http://www.google.com the search results appeared alongside links as one would expect.

You try it and see if it works going from https://www.google.com to just http://www.google.com in your search

hope this helps sort out the problem area and brings on a fix from Bitdefender

Regards

its all whether you use https:// or just http:// on the google search

Feedback welcome

This is my first post to this forum so sorry if this has already been covered

Installed Bitdefender antivirus plus 2013 today and noticed thios problem with the search advisor.

Unfortunately in my case, (using IE10, Chrome, Firefox - all latest versions), when looking at the settings for google search on the google search engine page, the setting to switch from http to https no longer exists and if I type in http://www.google.com, then I am always redirected to https://www.google.com. So that the search advisor toolbar never appears, and the search results are not flagged by search advisor.

I also notice that whenever I am on a site that uses https, then the search advisor toolbar never appears (ie facebook, paypal), but when I navigate to a web page using http, eg http://uk.search.yahoo.com/ then the toolbar appears and in the case of yahoo search, the results are flagged by search advisor.

On the privacy control settings menu, all options are set to on including: Scan SLL

Quick update, as I wrote the above, I noticed that an update to my version of Bitdefender had become available, which I installed.

After rebooting, I deiscovered that when I navigated to google, then instead of defaulting to https, it now goes to http, and my problem is resolved.

On other sites using https however, then this issue still recurs.

    Hi Pete22

I am newbie to this product myself and I am hoping that Bitdefender Company forum readers absorb these issues and fast track these issues , as the Product mostly is on Autopilot I think that functionality of all there protection modules should be something that a user has utmost assurance in that they are functioning ie in this case search advisor works across the spectrum of https and http and any other protocol that could potentially land a user in untrusted territory endangering there privacy and data.

Some acknowledgment from there developers or go between staff would be welcome. I hope that there development of the search adviser becomes rock solid, and isn't one of those features that gets broken by every new fast release of Firefox, Chrome, IE, or the other browsers they support.

Take care and hope they get it sorted soon as most folk are used to search requests being initiated from https base line as far as I know.
