i bought bitdefender 2008 antivirus...with three year lisence...

today i brought in my external hard drive to office to connect to my office pc...its infected with a vbs virus..

cannot double click to open drive F, only way to browse using explore the drive...

scanned with bidfedender to clean no virus was found.....

only way to clear issue is to backup files and reformat the external drive...and restore data..

how to find out the last virus pattern update was successful...

i tried to update pattern ,it keeps giving error no server found...

could anybody advise..??

vbs virus , i had to use some tool called animator to clear the vbs virus...its a autorun.inf and some registry

repair..

regards the virus update issue manage to clear , its just my DNS problem...

I notice this vbs virus is already in forum since last year...but why the antivirus not able to block this from

infecting the drives.... doesnt it got its own removal tools that already with the built virus scanner...??to scan

and remove immediately.....rather than making me to search alternative tools from outside source which

i am not able to know if will cause any further risk the my system..

Dear krishnan,

You must understand that there exist many modificitions of this kind of infections that using autorun to infect drives. To prevent you in the future you can use the tool flash disinfector this will disable the autorun function that is what these kind of infections use to spread. The only bad thing is that autorun will not work so you have to explore a cd-rom to manually start the installation.

This can also remove the autorun and registry entries. The best thing is that you in the future upload the infected autorun.inf open it with wordpad and search for the files and archive them in a passwordprotected archive with infected as password and upload it in the malware section of this forum.

If you have deleted the infections you should go into the registry press the windows button together with r now type regedit press enter. Open the following registry key: hkey_current_user and the following folders and subfolders,software,microsoft,windows,currentversion,explorer,mountpoints2 You have to verify each subkey and you have to verify if the files that were written in the infected autorun.inf files are present if so delete e.g {f398630 e-88d7-11dc-b1e2-001a92e39516} right click on it and delete it.
