Notification Area & Process Exceptions

I just started using Bitdefender Free. I have two questions:

1. There is no icon in the notification area. There was when I first installed, but upon rebooting it is missing. I have to always open the interface window from the Start menu. How do I ensure the icon appears in the notification area?

2. How do I enter a list of exceptions, in order to allow trusted applications to pass through the filter?
